🤱🏽 SUNYANI EAST MUNICIPAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE LAUNCHES 2026 WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
Earlier today, the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate officially launched this year’s World Breastfeeding Week under the theme:
“Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthening What Works.”
The event was graced by the Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr Richard Adinkra Kyeremeh; the Bono Regional Public Health Nurse, Mrs Rita Ansong; the Regional Health Promotion Manager, Mrs Amma Gyankoma Asirifi; management members and staff of the Directorate; staff from the Sunyani Central Subdistrict and Sunyani Municipal Hospital; and caregivers from across Sunyani.
Participants received insightful education on the importance of breastfeeding from the Municipal Nutrition Officer, Ms Lydia Lana, as well as the Municipal Director of Health Services, the Regional Health Promotion Manager, and the Regional Public Health Nurse. The presentations highlighted the immense benefits of breastfeeding for the health, growth and development of children, while emphasising the need for families, health workers, workplaces and communities to support mothers in breastfeeding successfully.
A practical and engaging role play led by the Sunyani Central Subdistrict Nutrition Officer, Mrs Patience Opoku, reinforced appropriate breastfeeding practices and demonstrated how families and communities can provide effective support to breastfeeding mothers.
The launch reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding as one of the most effective foundations for giving every child a healthy and sustainable start in life.
Together, let us strengthen what works and create an enabling environment for every mother to breastfeed and every child to thrive.
