Exams can be a very stressful time for so many students. You could study for months, know the material well, and then the day of the exam arrives… and suddenly you freeze up. Your mind goes blank, fear kicks in, and all that pressure can feel overwhelming.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

This morning I went for a run and I noticed more people out running than usual.

A lot of them were passing me and I caught myself thinking, “Am I going that slow?”

Without even realising it, I started comparing myself to everyone around me.

And how many of us do this every single day?

We compare ourselves to other people’s lives, relationships, holidays, careers, bodies, homes… especially on social media. We see the smiling family photo on holiday, the perfect date night, or the gym selfie with the “perfect” body, and suddenly our own life doesn’t feel good enough.
But here’s the thing… we only see the highlight reel.

That “perfect” holiday photo may have been the only moment everyone smiled while the rest of the trip was full of arguments and stressed parents. That couple on date night may actually be struggling behind closed doors. That “perfect” gym body may come with unhealthy habits, pressure, or pain nobody talks about.

People rarely post the reality of their lives.
So stop comparing your everyday life to someone else’s carefully chosen moments. Comparison is the thief of joy. The more we compare ourselves to others, the more we overlook the beauty, progress, and blessings in our own lives.

So run your own race. At your own pace. And be proud of how far you’ve already come.

As I was out running this evening, I managed to catch the sunset — and what a sunset it was! It was so beautiful that I had to stop and take a few photos.

As I carried on running, I noticed other people had stopped to admire it too. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised. So many of us spend our days glued to our phones, rarely looking up to notice the beauty around us. We’re constantly rushing, doing, planning, and getting lost in our own thoughts.

For a few moments, people stopped. They looked up. They admired the sky. They were simply present.

I had to stop and admire that sunset, and it was absolutely worth it.

How about taking a moment today to notice the beauty around you? The colours in the sky, a flower in bloom, the sound of birds singing, or a smile from a stranger.

I promise you, it will be worth the stop.

The only certain thing in life is we’re all going to die. So take the risk, do the thing, love deeply, laugh often, hug ...
