The winged Victory, the goddess Nike (Greek word for victory), daughter of the titan Pallas and the river Styx. She was a symbol of victory for ancient Greeks. The Nike of Samothrace, was found in 1863 at the Sanctuary of Kabeiroi at Samothrace and, since 1884, has been prominently displayed at the Louvre Museum. She has been described as "the greatest masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture."
