My husband actually said 5 days into our vacation: “I need a vacation” 😂🫠🤡

Vacation with a baby + toddler isn’t exactly relaxing…
it’s just parenting in a beautiful location

You’re not “unwinding”—
you’re chasing, carrying, negotiating, and hoping they eat one bite

But here’s the thing—
it still counts 🤍

Because in between the chaos,
there are moments you’ll actually remember
And even if it doesn’t feel restful,
it’s still a change of pace your nervous system needs

So lower the expectations,
lean into the mess,
and maybe… book the occasional solo moment when you can 💁🏽‍♀️✨

Different kind of luxury—but still worth it

Events include:
✔️ Sprinting away at full speed
✔️ Refusing food then asking 2 min later for fries or snacks
✔️ Meltdown/tantrums in the most scenic location possible

Naturopathic doctor mom checklist:
→ Hydrate them throughout the day
→ Feed them something (ideally something with protein but honestly anything at this point 😅)
→ Regulate yourself and remember there are no other responsibilities on vacation except family time!

That’s it. That’s the protocol

Did you know that poor sleep can impact your weight?

When you get poor sleep (quantity and/or quality) some hormones which influence weight are negatively impacted.

1) you become more prone to Insulin Resistance - aka your body doesn't know how to manage blood sugar and your cells aren't using the energy from food correctly, often resulting in weight gain

2) increased cortisol - cortisol is your stress hormone - and when imbalanced, it can cause havoc in the body - including fat storage and increased inflammation.

3) increased ghrelin and decreased leptin - these two hormones are involved in your satiety and hunger feelings. When they are imbalanced, you experience cravings and hunger and no signal to tell you when you are full (so you keep eating!)

Let's talk about sleep this week!

If you are struggling with sleep (either falling asleep or staying asleep) piling on a bunch of supplements or medication may not help... Especially if you're not getting to the root cause.

Many people who tell me that they struggle with sleep have tried large amounts of melatonin (with no success) and all the fancy sleepy time teas, and often, are still struggling to get some solid rest.

So let's start with the most common causes of sleep disturbances... Because if we can fix the root cause, then you're most likely going to have more sustainable and long-term success.

▶️Cortisol imbalance - your stress hormone is too high, and often times, melatonin is not going to help with this.
▶️peri-menopause - unfortunately the hormone changes during this time in your life can contribute to a lot of sleep challenges.
▶️medications - some medications cause sleep disturbances... And we may need to either take it at a different time or work with your family doctor to find an alternative.
▶️Insulin/glucose imbalance - if this is not addressed, your sleep quality is often negatively impacted. This is a big one I see very often!
▶️Dietary patterns - are you having tea or coffee too late in the day? What about alcohol? What about eating too late?
▶️Anxiety - are your overthinking thoughts keeping you up? We likely need to work on your resilience to stress and anxiety.

If you're suffering with insomnia and not waking up rested, let's chat - because it's not normal!

WHY AM I ALWAYS CRAVING FOOD?
. Do you ever just stand up from your work station and go straight to the fridge because you're "hungry" again? Do you ever just need a piece of chocolate or a dessert after a meal even though you shouldn't be hungry? Do you just crave something sweet or fried, randomly?

There's probably a reason for that!
You need to address the following:
👉 ensure there's enough protein in all your meals - if there isn't, it will result in cravings and less satiety.
👉poor sleep quality will contribute to cravings and desire to indulge in more food
👉you might not be hungry.. You might just be dehydrated! Trying drinking more water throughout the day!
👉 if you are over exercising and not compensating it with enough calories, you're going to put yourself into a state of stress and wanting more food.
👉high stress levels/high cortisol hormone (as mentioned in my last point), can trigger food cravings as a comfort level.
👉and of course, insulin resistance will cause increased cravings, increased weight gain and many other concerns.
