Government Commissions $218.6M Regional Medical Distribution Centre in Region Ten
The Government of Guyana has further strengthened healthcare delivery in Region Ten with the commissioning of a new Regional Medical Distribution Centre, valued at $218,688,808.
Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, officially commissioned the facility yesterday, marking another significant investment by the Government in strengthening the country’s public health infrastructure and improving the availability and distribution of essential medical supplies.
The new facility is expected to enhance the storage, management and timely distribution of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and other essential health commodities throughout Region Ten, thereby supporting health facilities and improving the delivery of services to residents.
Delivering remarks at the commissioning ceremony, Minister Anthony highlighted the Government’s continued investments in transforming Guyana’s healthcare system and ensuring that citizens have access to quality and efficient healthcare services.
He noted that investments in modern health infrastructure are being complemented by improvements in medical equipment and technology, the availability of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, and the continued training and recruitment of healthcare professionals.
Minister Anthony further emphasised that the Government’s vision is to ensure that persons, regardless of where they reside, have access to quality healthcare services closer to their communities.
The Health Minister also expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful completion of the Regional Medical Distribution Centre. He urged those entrusted with managing the facility to ensure that it is operated efficiently and effectively, allowing it to fulfil its intended purpose of supporting healthcare delivery across the region.
Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Honourable Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, also delivered remarks during the ceremony, underscoring the importance of continued investments aimed at improving services and the overall quality of life for Guyanese.
The new facility is expected to significantly strengthen the medical supply chain within Region Ten, ensuring that health facilities are better equipped to respond to the needs of the communities they serve.
Also present at the commissioning ceremony were regional officials, senior officials of the Ministry of Health, healthcare professionals, community representatives and residents.
