Our Executive Director, Kobe Smith, will be a featured speaker at the 6th Regional Conference on Population and Development (RCPD6) in Montevideo, Uruguay.

He will contribute to discussions on Reproductive Rights in Times of Demographic Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Atlas of HPV Prevention Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

There are many questions about abortion later in pregnancy, so here’s an important fact:

At GRPA, abortion services are offered up to 12 weeks of pregnancy in accordance with our clinical guidelines and the Laws of Guyana.

A pregnancy at 6 months around 24 weeks is not eligible for an abortion because, at this stage, the fetus is much more developed and the medical, ethical, and legal considerations are very different.

In rare and exceptional circumstances such as when the pregnant person’s life is at serious risk or there are severe fetal abnormalities, in-hospital specialist care may be considered. These situations require thorough medical assessment and are not routine elective abortions.
