“If you want to raise the potential of your body, you need to take in foods that carry a higher potential than its current state.” - Darren Hey

Darren presented at the premier event for permaculture in Hungary, the Central European Permaculture Convergence 2026, hosted by the Gyüttment Fesztivál (Gyüttment Találkozó). 27-30 August 2026.

Darren is presenting tomorrow at the Gyüttment Festival in Hungary! His topic:

"Regenerative principles hold consistent and true across boundaries. Whether we are dealing with a forest, a pasture, or the soil in general, the principles which allow for its regeneration are congruent for our body as well. In permaculture and earth-care principles, we speak of managing entropy within the ecosystem, while giving little attention to self-care principles and the ecosystem within us.

There can be no doubt, that managing entropy within the physical body-mind framework is just as essential, for a congruence exists between the natural world of land, air and water, and the natural world of our body.

If we cannot argue the ethics of leaving our Earth in better shape than our predecessors for the benefit of those to come, can we argue any different for the genetic strength passed down to subsequent generations? What type of earth and human culture would you like to return to? What type of body would you like to take up again?"

As part of Darren’s work in Hungary having assisted in teaching a permaculture course, he had the opportunity to visit another project in the Amboise region of France. A more than 300 year old chateau that once belonged to a French president in the 1800’s.

Work being done on the estate permaculture-style is a natural pond wetlands system, Viti-culture using natural pest control systems, in-house seedling raising and food growing in a natural climate controlled poly-tunnel system, food forest system.

These systems provide biodiversity for the property to limit the need for artificial and poisonous inputs, while providing better quality fresh produce.

Living on the land, working where you live, cooperating with nature, feeding yourself while living amongst beauty, a peaceful, and fulfilling life - these are what RegenEarth Project value - that and soul self-actualisation.

Having completed my training in Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku), I am now learning Qigong to bring these two practices together, combining nature immersion with gentle movement, breath and mindful awareness. It will be an welcomed addition to our somatic practices.

Forest Bathing invites us to slow down, engage our senses and reconnect with the natural world.

Qigong uses gentle flowing movement, breath and focused awareness to support calm, balance and mind-body connection.

Bringing the two together is a natural fit with the RegenEarth Project and its focus on regeneration of ourselves, our connection with each other, and our relationship with the Earth.

How blessed am I to be doing my training and practice whilst on R&R in this amazing place. Nestled in the green heart of Umbria, La Casella rests within an ancient landscape of rolling hills, forests and wooded ravines, shaped by the waters of Chiani River, medieval towns, and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Ideal for Digital Nomads.

When we reconnect with nature, we reconnect with ourselves.

Stone fruit in Hungary are like nothing I’ve ever tried in Australia.

So sweet, with no acid residue that can leave the teeth feeling sensitive.

I’m trying to discover if this is a phenomenon of the climate, being a cool to cold Mediterranean climate in Hungary, as opposed to the warm Mediterranean climate of Perth region Western Australia, or as a result of the growing practices, or both.

I do know that certain (or over-zealous use of) artificial fertilisers can prevent the proper maturation of fruit acids into fruit sugars, and that these acids can cut the tongue, gums and sensitise the teeth.

You can experience this phenomenon most easily with pineapple and citrus, but many fruits in general, and this can put people off eating the fruit abundantly, if at all.

We can return to proper cultivation of the environment and refrain from using artificial inputs that destroy the symbiotic organisms properly nourishing the plants.

It takes longer to produce a yield, but the patience yields food of far higher quality, which one would need less of to acquire more nourishment.

Food for thought? 😉

Any insights?
