🇱🇻🇪🇪🇱🇹 – a human chain of 2 million people stretching from Tallinn, through Riga, to Vilnius. This non-violent protest on 23 August 1989 captured the world's attention as the three Baltic nations clearly expressed their will for freedom and independence, and declared that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, signed exactly 50 years earlier, was a crime committed by totalitarian regimes.

Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, we remain united to this day through our actions, our thoughts, and our unwavering support for Ukraine.

The research center SIA "DR. VISHYS" and Latvia's first artificial intelligence laboratory for pharmaceutical research have officially begun operations in a historic building located at Aptiekas iela 7.

The new laboratory will specialize in utilizing AI methods for molecular modeling, which will significantly accelerate the development of new medications and reduce costs during the early stages.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis, President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Professor Ivars Kalviņš, Director of the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Dr. Nina Linde, as well as Members of Parliament and representatives from the Ministry of Health.

Special gratitude was extended to the founders of the project-Dr Kanans Višvanats FRSC and Dr Divya Vishwanath-whose investments are helping build a new innovation ecosystem in Latvia.

In his address to the attendees, Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis emphasized the strategic importance of the project:

"Pharmaceuticals will become one of the main pillars of Latvia's scientific and industrial development. In the near future, thanks to new technologies, artificial intelligence, and research investments, our country can become one of the global leaders in this sector. Today, we are laying the foundation for a knowledge-based economy that will generate world-class innovations right here in Latvia."

What lies ahead? The ambitious development plans extend beyond the borders of Riga-the renovation and modernization of the former Institute of Inorganic Chemistry building complex in Salaspils is planned for the coming years. Thanks to investments from the Vishwanath family, this facility will be transformed into a modern scientific-manufacturing center, complete with an experimental production plant and world-class laboratories.

This project represents a massive step forward in strengthening Latvia's scientific potential, attracting investment, and solidifying our country's position within the European biomedicine sector!

I am deeply humbled and profoundly honored to share a milestone that marks a defining moment in my journey as a scientist, researcher, and global healthcare advocate.I have been officially admitted as an Honorary Member of the prestigious Latvian Academy of Sciences (LZA). To make this moment even more surreal, my name has been permanently engraved on the commemorative plaque in the entrance lobby of the Academy of Sciences building in Riga. In the institution's storied history spanning over a century, I am told that only nine other distinguished names have ever been printed on this plaque. To stand alongside these monumental figures of scientific history is a privilege beyond words. This exceptional recognition is not just a personal milestone; it is a validation of our collective mission to democratize global healthcare. The Academy has bestowed this honor in recognition of our dedicated research and development of low-cost, accessible cancer medicines specifically designed for emerging markets. For years, my focus has been on breaking down the financial barriers of oncology treatments. Traditional cancer therapies often impose a devastating financial burden on families, particularly in developing economies. By leveraging targeted, natural extract-based therapeutics and securing 15 world patents for anti-cancer and anti-malarial treatments, our goal has been to deliver high-efficacy, low-toxicity alternatives that are affordable for those who need them most.Science loses its purpose if its breakthroughs are confined to the privileged. True innovation lies in scalability and equity. This recognition further strengthens my deep-rooted bond with Latvia, a country that has graciously granted me citizenship and embraced my vision for academic and industrial synergy. Serving as a Council Member and Director at the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, and having previously received an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the Senate, I am continuously inspired by Latvia’s forward-thinking scientific ecosystem.I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Senate and the leadership of the Latvian Academy of Sciences for this monumental honor. This plaque is a permanent reminder of the work that still lies ahead. We will continue to push the boundaries of pharmaceutical research, challenge the status quo of high-cost medicine, and ensure that life-saving healthcare is a basic human right, not a luxury.Thank you to my family, colleagues, and research partners across the globe who have walked this path with me. The journey continues.
