Artist Isamu Noguchi was one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Born to a Japanese father and an American mother, he moved to New York in 1933 at the age of 29. While he is renowned for his sculptures, many people know him best for his iconic paper lanterns, the Akari light sculptures.
Throughout his life, Noguchi lived and worked in different parts of the world. In his later years, he returned to New York, where many of his public artworks can still be found throughout the city. He eventually moved from Manhattan to an industrial area in Queens, where he established his studio and residence. Later, he transformed the site into what is now Noguchi Museum, preserving his work, ideas, and legacy for future generations.
