Quadriceps weakness is a primary challenge after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) due to Arthrogenic Muscle Inhibition (AMI), a reflexive shutdown, caused by swelling and trauma.
It prevents the quadriceps from fully contracting after surgery.
Quads set exercise with Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) to overcome inhibition and jumpstart muscle activation.
