Sports Physiotherapy International (SPI) was established in 1995 by Philippa Stewart and Sheilagh Anderson, long time business partners and well known physiotherapists in sports physiotherapy and sports medicine management. For the past 21 years, Philippa and Sheilagh have been travelling the world accompanying famous sports personalities, celebrities and sports teams on tours and at championship events. SPI clients are primarily elite athletes performing on the world stage in golf, tennis, cricket and rugby. At an international level, SPI works with the WTA, ATP, International Tennis Federation, PGA Tour, European Golf Tour, the Asian Tour, LPGA and the Ladies European tour. In Hong Kong, we work with the Hong Kong Tennis Association, Hong Kong Badminton Association, Hong Kong Rugby Football Union national squads and the Hong Kong Cricket Association where the senior Men’s team is in the ICC High Performance Programme. Since 1999, SPI has been managing physiotherapy clinic services in China in a partnership with the Beijing International SOS Clinic which, since 2015, is now managed by Raffles Medical Group. Through this partnership, SPI has a flagship clinic in Beijing and smaller satellite clinics situated around China. In Hong Kong, SPI has an integrated clinic with a high performance fitness gym, Pinnacle Performance, and facilitates their full physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to clients particularly tailor-made for athletes and teams. With more than two decades of experience, SPI has joined the ProHealth Asia network of healthcare specialists to expand their healthcare services.

It looks like the Bank BRI Indonesia Open was a lot of fun off the course this year, while the exciting development at Pondok Indah Golf Club in Jakarta was South African Justin Harding claiming his maiden Asian Tour title on his fifth outing having missed the cut on all previous occasions. SPI physiotherapists Mawinee Puanglumyai and Piyarat Voonvong were joined by local therapist Daniel Etnaforsola who came along to learn about the medical management of elite golfers during competiton. The Pondok Indah course is also the venue for the upcoming Asian Games golf event being held in late August.

Welcome to new SPI physiotherapist Catherine Choong, who recently made her debut working with Piyarat Voonvong in Malaysia at the Sarawak Championship at Damai Golf and Country Club. The players were hitting it straight after reading the crocodile warnings, and John Catlin of the United States kept up the tension as he sank a clutch birdie putt on the last hole in a thrilling final round to win by single shot and claim his second Asian Tour title for 2018.

The Ladies European Thailand Championship 2018, joint-sanctioned by the LET and the TLPGA, and the Asian Tour's Queen’s Cup 2018 were successfully played at the challenging Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand back to back over the last two weeks. SPI Thai physiotherapists, Mawinee Puanglumyai and Piyarat Voonvong were in attendance and delighted to witness their fellow countrymen Kanyalak Preedasuttijit and Jazz Janewattananond win the titles on their home course.

Happy birthday to SPI physiotherapist Mawinee Puanglumyai who worked at Thai Country Club in Bangkok last week for the Thailand Open 2018 together with Piyarat Voonvong. Thai golfer Panuphol Pittayarat, most commonly known by his nickname Coconut, claimed his second Asian Tour title after holding off a strong challenge from countryman Poom Saksansin. The victory was especially sweet as he won the prestigious Thailand Open trophy on his home course thus becoming the fifth local player to win their national Open.

Young Hong Kong tennis players continue to perform well in international competitions! This month the girls and boys junior teams were in Bangkok competing in the ITF Asia 14 & Under Development Championship 2018 - Division 1. SPI physiotherapists Piyarat Voonvong and Mawinee Puanglumyai helped out over the two weeks of events with Hong Kong finishing No. 1 in both boys singles and doubles --- a huge result for the youngsters.

The Asia-Pacific Classic, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and China Tour, was successfully played at the beautiful and challenging St. Andrews Golf Club in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China last week. SPI physiotherapists Mawinee Puanglumyai and Ankush Sekhri travelled to Dhaka last week for the AB Bank Bangladesh Open 2018 held at beautiful Kurmitola Golf Club. Congratulations to Sweden’s Malcom Kokocinski, current leader of the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit, who secured an inspiring victory after closing with a six-under-par 65 to finish at 14-under-par and win by three shots for his first Asian Tour title.

The Belt & Road Colourful Yunnan Golf Open was recently added to the European Tour 2018 schedule and co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and China Tour. It was played at the Kunming Yulongwan golf club in Yunnan Province where SPI sports therapist Mak Ka Wing treated the professional golfers and witnessed Kim Koivu of Finland claim his first European Challenge Tour title in only his fourth appearance on the tour.

SPI Sports Therapist Max Yeung travelled to Kuala Lumpur again with Hong Kong Cricket ‘A’ squad last week. The team was invited by Malaysian Cricket Association to play four x 50-over matches with Malaysian cricket team who is preparing for the ICC World Cricket League division 4 tournament being played at their home pitch later in this month. Last week SPI physiotherapist Mawinee Puanglumyai stayed on in Thailand with the Hong Kong Junior Girl’s Team to complete in Asia/Oceania final qualifying event for World tournament in Czech Republic. The girls were grouped with Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Korea with the team finally managing 9th place which means they missed out on the main event but still maintain their final-qualifying status for next time.

Last week Hong Kong Junior Boy's Team competed in the 2018 ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia/Oceania qualifying event in Thailand, which involved 16 teams fighting it out for 4 available spots in world final event in the Czech Republic. It was SPI physiotherapist Mawinee Puanglumyai's first time to join the team and look after the players at an event with this type of format. Eventually the team managed to place 9th which maintains their final-qualifying status for next time. All the best for the girls who will play in Malaysia this week.'
