On August 8, we celebrated Maja’s ninth anniversary.

Nine years of growth, learning, and work that continues to shape who we are. We have always believed that gratitude is something to be expressed, not only felt.

So, between sessions, we came together for a Mecaru ceremony to honor the journey so far, give thanks for the protection that has carried us through, and pray for continued guidance in the years ahead.

We spent the day feeling grateful and blessed, then gathered around the table and shared the kind of laughter you feel deep in your stomach.

May the year ahead allow us to continue doing meaningful work, strengthen the connections within our community, and support more people in finding their way back to themselves.

Thank you for being part of these nine years with us.

P.S. Did you see the end? Maybe we are secretly singers, too.

A lot has changed since Maja first began. The space has evolved, the team has grown, and new ways of learning and connecting have developed alongside the work.

This month, we honour what has brought us here while making room for something new.

For the first time, Real Talk will be led by four of the women working behind the scenes at Maja. Together, they will bring different ages, perspectives, and lived experiences into a conversation about growing up and the expectations that come with it.

If this conversation feels familiar, you are welcome to join us.

A little more of what happens around the work at Maja.

Different personalities, different perspectives, small rituals, and a few rules some of us remember better than others.

Did any of these surprise you, or is this exactly how you imagined us?

A quieter schedule does not always create a quieter mind.
When the pressure continues beyond the task itself, it may be worth looking at the role responsibility, anticipation, and control are playing.

Not every experience of overwhelm has the same cause. But when it keeps returning, the pattern deserves as much attention as the schedule.

What do you find hardest to put down?

Overwhelm is often recognised only when it becomes impossible to ignore.

Before then, it can blend into your routine. Life continues, things get done, and you keep telling yourself you are just having a busy week.

Patterns begins with noticing what has become familiar.
What does overwhelm tend to look like for you?

Before we ask how to get rid of anger, it might be worth asking a different question.

What is it trying to tell us?

From the outside, most people only see the sessions.
But there is so much more that shapes what Maja is.

The conversations between therapists.
The small traditions that have become part of our culture.
The way we keep learning.
The care that goes into preparing each space before someone arrives.

These things rarely make it onto Instagram, but they’ve always been part of how we work.

As we approach Maja’s ninth anniversary, we thought it was the right time to share more of what happens behind the scenes.

Welcome to Inside Maja.

If there’s something you’ve always wondered about Maja, our therapists, or how we work, leave your question in the comments. It might be part of a future Inside Maja.

One of the questions we hear most often is whether someone “needs” subconscious work.

The answer isn’t based on the issue they’re facing.
It isn’t based on how severe the problem looks.

And it isn’t something we decide before getting to know the person.

At Maja, every recommendation begins with understanding.

We want to understand not only what someone is experiencing, but what is keeping that pattern in place.

Sometimes that work happens through conscious exploration.

Sometimes it requires working with the subconscious.
The approach is never the starting point.

The person is.

Because lasting change doesn’t come from using the same therapy for everyone.

It comes from understanding where change needs to happen, then choosing the approach that meets the person there.

We often associate emotional avoidance with distraction, denial, or shutting down.

But sometimes it looks remarkably productive.
Work itself isn’t the problem.

For many people, it is meaningful, fulfilling, and an important part of life.

The question is whether it has also become the place you automatically go when something feels difficult to face.
Not because you consciously decide to avoid your emotions.

But because, over time, staying busy may have become the most familiar way to create distance from them.
This isn’t about judging ambition or productivity.

It’s about becoming curious about the role they might be playing in your life.

Sometimes the most important question isn’t “Why do I work so much?”

It’s “What happens when I stop?”

Not every pattern is obvious.

Some become so familiar that they simply start to feel like part of who we are.

The way we respond under pressure.
The way we relate to other people.
The way we protect ourselves without even realising it.

This series isn’t about diagnosing anyone.

It’s about noticing the patterns that often go unseen.

Because recognition is often where meaningful change begins.

Some of these may resonate with you.

Some may not.

And that’s okay.

Our hope is simply that, somewhere along the way, you recognise something that helps you understand yourself a little more clearly.
