Many people believe their anxious attachment began with a breakup, a loss, or an abandonment they can clearly remember.

But often, that’s not where the story starts.

According to Marie, anxious attachment is more commonly rooted in repeated experiences of inconsistency during childhood.

Connection. Disconnection.
Feeling seen. Feeling unseen.
Having support. Being alone with difficult emotions.

These moments are usually small enough that we don’t consciously remember them. Yet over time, they shape how we experience closeness, safety, and relationships.

When we look beyond the obvious, we often discover that anxious attachment has many layers.

This clip is from Marie’s recent Maja MasterClass:
Why You Can’t Just Let It Be: Overthinking, Checking, and Reassurance-Seeking

What part resonated most with you?

Most people are taught to fight the parts of themselves they dislike.

The anxious part.
The controlling part.
The avoidant part.
The part that keeps overthinking everything.

But No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz offers a very different perspective.

What if those parts are not trying to destroy you?
What if they are trying to protect you in the only way they know how?

In this edition of Maja Reads, Marie shares one of the books that continues to shape how she understands inner conflict in therapeutic work.

A thoughtful and deeply accessible read for anyone who feels emotionally pulled in different directions internally.

Most people try to change patterns at the level of thought.

But many patterns were never created there.

You can understand why you overthink, people please, shut down, stay hypervigilant, or repeat the same relational dynamics and still feel your system reacting automatically when those patterns activate.

Because the reaction is often happening faster and deeper than conscious logic.

This is why the work at Maja is not only about insight.

It is about understanding where the response is actually being held and working at that level.

For some people, that means subconscious work.

For others, nervous system regulation, cognitive restructuring, somatic work, or a combination of approaches.

The process is not standardized.

It is collaborative, individualized, and built around what the person in front of us actually needs.

Because healing is not about giving everyone the same answer.

It is about understanding what will genuinely help someone move forward.

You already know you overthink. But do you know why you can’t stop?

These are the insights from Marie’s masterclass on reassurance-seeking, checking, and the pull that keeps the loop going.

Save the slide that hit hardest. Or drop it in the comments.

You can name the pattern and still repeat it.

You can know exactly where it comes from. Trace it back to childhood. Understand the wound, the trigger, the response.

And still find yourself in the same argument. The same dynamic. The same moment of self-sabotage.

This is not a failure of self-awareness. It’s a limit of where awareness alone can reach.

The subconscious mind runs the majority of our behavior, not through logic, but through deeply embedded programs formed long before we had the language to question them.

Talking about them helps. Understanding them helps. But it rarely changes them at the root.

That’s the difference between knowing and shifting.

At Maja Healing, we work below the level of insight.

Through hypnotherapy, somatic work, and subconscious reprogramming, we address the pattern where it actually lives.

Understanding is the beginning. It was never meant to be the whole journey.

Intellectualising pain is not the same as processing it. The mind can build an extraordinarily precise map of a place it has never actually entered.

That is the pattern. And it shifts below the level of analysis, not above it.

Sometimes relationship anxiety is not about being “too emotional” or “too needy.”

Sometimes it is a system that learned very early that staying alert was necessary.

So even when the relationship is okay, the checking, overthinking, scanning, and pull for reassurance can still feel impossible to stop.

In this Maja MasterClass, Marie will explore what anxious attachment patterns are actually trying to protect beneath the surface, and why insight alone often does not make the pattern disappear.

This session is for anyone who feels exhausted by the cycle of:
• overthinking texts and interactions
• needing reassurance to feel steady
• feeling unsafe even when nothing is obviously wrong
• struggling to “just let it go”

The pattern can look identical in two different people.
The work never is.

Someone seeking constant reassurance in their relationship is not dealing with a communication problem. They are dealing with a signal that was installed long before this relationship existed. And depending on where that signal came from, how it is held in the body, and what else it is connected to, the approach will be different.

This is what it means to work integratively. Not offering every modality and letting the client choose. Reading what is actually present and responding to that.

If you have been wondering where to start, or why something you have tried before did not hold, this is worth understanding.

Reassurance works.
That is exactly why the loop keeps repeating.

Each check-in quiets the alarm for a moment.
But underneath that relief, the nervous system learns something else:

The alarm was right to fire.

So the signal returns.
And the need to check returns with it.

This is why the same reassurance can temporarily calm you, yet never fully resolve the pattern.

The issue is not communication alone.
It is not about asking better questions or receiving better answers.

It is about a subconscious association that learned uncertainty equals danger.

And reassurance, by itself, cannot rewrite that association.

That is where the deeper work begins.

Why reassurance strengthens the pattern it is trying to solve.
