All of our activities were designed from experts who live on the island or serve for tourists and locals since more than 25 years. Our experts are part of two worlds, the Balinese and western culture and balance the local needs and the tourist expectations in a responsible and sustainable way. All ou can share with us is local! Showing all our guests an authentic world and keeping the authentic world alive and undamaged is our philosophy. We accomodate only a limited amout of guests per day, an amount which has no impact on the social and cultural traditions but which opens opportunities for a better education, to grow the locxal economy sustainable und to design a future without the unheallthy achievements of the "modern" world".

Sometimes the clearest explanation of what Balikaru is begins not with one of our experiences, but just a few steps from our door.

We live in the middle of a Balinese mountain village. Directly beside us stands the sacred family temple of one of the extended families who have helped shape Balikaru and continue to be part of our everyday life.

This temple is not a visitor attraction. It is where relatives gather for the rituals that accompany family life across generations. Stories passed down here speak of it as a place especially close to the gods.

On this day, the family came together for Melaspas — a Balinese Hindu ceremony to purify and bless a new place before life begins within it.

Many of the people in this film are members of our Balikaru family. They are our neighbours, friends and colleagues. No scene was arranged. No one performed for the camera. We simply stood at our door and witnessed family, faith and community coming together. 🙏

This is why we cannot separate the experiences we share with our guests from the life of the village around us. The knowledge, warmth and traditions our guests encounter do not come from a programme created for visitors. They grow from the lives of the people who make Balikaru what it is.

Village life is not the backdrop to Balikaru.
It is what makes us Balikaru. 💛

Everyone cooks here—and that is exactly how we like it. 💛

These 25 seconds bring together some of our favourite moments from the past few days: children and adults, families and friends, different generations and guests from many parts of the world—all cooking together with us in our village kitchen.

They came to experience Balinese cooking, make traditional Jamu and discover what happens when fresh local ingredients, living traditions and people from different cultures meet around one table.

Here with us, cooking is not a performance. Nobody stands at the side and simply watches.

We crush spices together.
We fold banana leaves together.
We prepare traditional dishes together.
We laugh, taste and learn from one another.

Our ingredients come from our village, the local market, our herb and spice garden and the Balikaru Farm. We use the herbs, spices and flavours that belong to everyday life in our part of Bali—and prepare food in the way it is still cooked here.

And there is much more to experience beyond our open kitchen: our garden, our farm animals, the rice fields and the natural rhythm of our mountain village.

It is a day for children, families, food lovers and everyone who wants to experience Bali through its flavours, its people and its living traditions.

Not a cooking show.
Not a tourist performance.
A place at our table.

Maybe we’ve made travelling a little too complicated.

We save places.
We build lists.
We follow recommendations.
We search for the perfect view, the perfect experience, the perfect photo.

And sometimes the moments we remember most happen when we stop trying so hard. 🌿

Thea & Georg simply spent a day with us at Balikaru.

They met people from our village. They laughed, learned, tried, shared, cooked – and became part of a little piece of everyday Bali.

Nothing needed to be staged.
Nothing needed to be made more spectacular.

Because sometimes happiness really is that simple.

And that’s what we love about this little film.

This could be anyone.
This could be you.

Come to Bali with curiosity instead of a checklist and you may discover something surprisingly difficult to find:

Bali as it is.

Real people. Real encounters. Real village life.

This is who we are.
We are Balikaru.

Much more Bali than expected. 💚

🌿 The Last Real Bali.

If this is the Bali you would love someone else to discover too, share this little film with them.

Sometimes passing on something good is a pretty good reason to press “Share”.

With love from our village,
The Balikaru Family 💚

Some messages are read once.

Others stay with us.

After their day at Balikaru, Tatjana & Juri sent us a message in Bahasa Indonesia. They wrote about the experiences they had shared with us — but even more about how they had felt during that day.

We could now tell you what they said.

But their own words say it more honestly than we ever could.

So take a moment. Watch their story, read their message and discover what stayed with them after they left us.

For us, their words describe what travel can become when it is still made for people.

Not a culture performed for visitors, but a culture shared with them.
Not strangers passing briefly through, but people welcomed around one table.
Not simply another activity completed, but a day that creates a real human connection.

This is what we want Balikaru to be.

A place where people can experience the Bali that is still lived every day — here in our village, within our family and through traditions that remain part of our lives.

Thank you, Tatjana & Juri, for trusting us with your words. They mean more to our entire family than you may realise. 🤍

If their story reminds you of the kind of travel the world needs more of, please share it.

Beauty is easy to find in Bali.

What is harder to find is the Bali that was never designed for visitors.

Here in our village at the foot of sacred Mount Batukaru, life does not begin when our guests arrive. It is already happening — in our kitchens, gardens, homes, rice fields and traditions.

We open it and invite you to share a real day with us.

You cook with us and discover the flavours of our traditional kitchen. You prepare Jamu from herbs growing around us, enjoy the meal we have made together and walk through the village and rice fields that shape our everyday lives.

There is time to discover our hidden village waterfall, slow down in the natural hot springs and meet Bali through the people, traditions and nature that still belong together here.

These are not separate attractions arranged around village life.

They are part of the life here — and part of what we are happy to share with you.

If you are searching for a Bali that was not created to meet the expectations of tourism, discover our Pure Bali Village Experience:

Perhaps you already know who you would love to share this day with. 🌿

For us, this is Pure Bali — lived, shared and still real.

THE LAST REAL BALI

We believe that not every journey to Bali has to be louder than the last.

Not every day has to be filled with more places, more photos, more noise and more things to do.

Sometimes, the most meaningful moments are the quiet ones.

A sacred spring.
A blessing.
Water on your skin.
A moment of stillness.
A ritual carried by generations.
A feeling you don’t need to explain immediately.

Here at Balikaru, our Blessing & Purification experience is not made for spectacle.

It is something we share with love, care and respect — together with our local village family, in the spiritual landscape at the foot of sacred Mount Batukaru.

This is Bali away from the rush.

No pressure to perform.
No need to chase the next trend.
No need for everything to be higher, louder or bigger.

Just time to breathe, to feel, to let something soften.

For travelers who believe that the most beautiful part of a journey is not always what you see.

Sometimes, it is what becomes quiet inside you.

When Bali gets quiet, it begins to speak.

What is your Bali rhythm? 🌿

Perhaps it is slow and peaceful:

Walking through a mountain village, discovering herbs and spices, preparing traditional Jamu or simply enjoying the beauty of Bali without rushing towards the next photo stop.

Perhaps it is joyful and full of flavour:

Cooking together, laughing with local families and sharing food made from ingredients grown close to home.

Perhaps it is spiritual:

A blessing and purification at a sacred spring, surrounded by jungle, water and the traditions that still shape everyday life in Bali.

Or perhaps your rhythm is wild:

Remote trails, river crossings, hidden waterfalls and a real adventure beneath sacred Mount Batukaru.

At Balikaru, these are not staged impressions created for visitors.

They are different moments from the same living Bali—shared by the people who call this place home.

One day. Many rhythms.
Every moment feels different.

🌿 Think this is impossible with a baby?

That's exactly what many parents think.
Until they discover that meaningful travel doesn't have to be complicated.

A blessing ceremony.
A hidden jungle temple.
Local families.
Authentic Bali.

And yes...
Even with a baby. 👶
Because some memories are worth making now, not later.

✨ MORE HAPPY TO DAY

Working in tourism, we meet many wonderful people.
But every now and then, there are guests whose joy stays with us long after they leave.

These two had just completed their Blessing & Purification experience.

Nothing was staged.
Nothing was asked of them.
They were simply enjoying the moment.

And as we looked at these photos later, one thought stayed with us:
Maybe the best journeys aren't the ones where we see the most.
Maybe they're the ones where we feel the most.
We cannot promise happiness.
But over the years, we have seen many guests leave Balikaru a little calmer, a little lighter—and perhaps a little happier than before.
