Pregnancy changes the way the body moves, distributes weight, and finds support. The ribs, pelvis, spine, and abdominal wall all adapt as the body changes.

So when a pregnant client moves differently, instead of immediately asking, “How do I correct this?” we can ask: “How is this body adapting?” The goal isn’t to make a pregnant body move exactly as it did before.

It’s to understand the body in front of us.

They keep saying, “I feel so tight.” So we stretch. And stretch. And stretch.

But what if “tight” isn’t simply about flexibility? Sometimes we need to look at how they move, how they breathe, and how they stabilize.

The body may be looking for support, not more range.

We’re often taught to look for what’s “wrong.” A shoulder that sits differently. A pelvis that isn’t perfectly symmetrical.

A movement pattern that doesn’t look like everyone else’s. But different doesn’t automatically mean dysfunctional.

Before we try to change something, we can pause and ask: What is this body doing? And why might it be doing it?

Observation comes before correction.

We can be very quick to correct what looks “wrong.”

But observation comes first.
Before changing a client’s posture, take a moment to notice their breathing, weight distribution, and how they naturally move.

Sometimes, what looks like a problem is simply the body adapting.

Sometimes, the place that hurts isn’t where the problem starts. When we work with movement, it helps to look beyond the area that feels uncomfortable. The hip, knee, and foot are part of a connected system—and how one area moves can influence another. Before correcting the “problem area,” take a moment to look at the whole movement. As your baby grows, your centre of mass changes—and so does the way your body responds to gravity.

You may stand a little wider, shift your weight differently, lean into one leg, or change the way you walk.

There’s no single “perfect” pregnancy posture. Your body is constantly adapting.

Instead of trying to correct every change, start by noticing it.

Pregnancy changes more than your belly.

As your baby grows, your whole body begins to adapt. Your centre of mass changes, your weight bearing may shift, and your spine, pelvis, rib cage, and lower limbs all have to respond to new physical demands.

You may notice yourself standing differently, walking differently, sitting differently, or even breathing differently.

But these changes aren't necessarily something that needs to be “fixed.”

Your body is adapting.

And the more you understand what's happening, the more opportunity you have to move with awareness rather than constantly trying to correct your posture.

Pregnancy is a time of incredible change. Learning to notice those changes can help you develop a deeper relationship with your body and how it moves.

When you stand still, your body isn't actually still.

Your weight is constantly shifting through your feet—forward, back, from one side to the other. And even subtle changes in how you load your feet can influence what happens further up the body.

Your feet connect you to the ground. From there, your knees, hips, pelvis, and spine continuously adapt to how you organise your weight.

This isn't about finding the “perfect” way to stand. It's about becoming curious.

Next time you're standing, pause for a moment and notice: where do you feel your weight? What changes when you shift it?

Sometimes, simply noticing can reveal a whole new conversation within the body.

Your body is always learning from what you do repeatedly.

The way you sit, stand, walk, carry your bag, or shift your weight can gradually become familiar patterns—so familiar that you may stop noticing them.

But this isn't about labelling those patterns as “good” or “bad.” Your body is simply adapting to the demands you give it.

The interesting part is what happens when you become aware of those patterns.

Once you notice, you have the opportunity to explore something different, create more choices, and discover how your body responds.

Your body remembers. What is yours learning?
