Perimenopause brought unexpected shifts in mood for me.

What’s helped: acupuncture with Alma Acupuncture, CBT with Claire Shannon, and steady support from magnesium—through food or the local health store on the days I am not getting enough veg.

There’s solid research now behind these approaches—CBT and magnesium in particular have shown real benefit in easing low mood during this stage.

Antidepressants are sometimes prescribed, but I really hope they’re no longer the first port of call. There are gentler, supportive steps we can reach for first.

Nutritional therapy has also played a quiet, important role—using food and lifestyle to gently support low mood and menopause.
