Certified teacher MBSR/MBCT

I qualified to practise in 2006 with a Licentiate in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I then travelled to China to continue with post graduate training at the Zhejiang Medical University in Hangzhou, where I was awarded an Advanced Clinical Certificate in Chinese Medicine. Through the university, I gained extensive clinical experience during an internship

at the Red Cross Hospital and the Acupuncture and Tuina Hospital. During this time I also worked in a Gynecology ward that specialised in fertility. In 2012 I completed a B.Sc (Hons) level course in Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tuina and Advanced Acupuncture at the College of Oriental Medicine. I established a clinic in Athlone in 2006 and I have been in professional practise for the last eighteen years. In 2010 I completed a one year teacher training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, where I trained with Professor Mark Williams from the Oxford Mindfulness Institute and I am qualified to teach this both as an 8 week course or on a one to one basis. I have many years of experience as a meditation teacher and facilitating group meditations. I have also completed levels 1, 2 and 3 in Ear Acupuncture – which is particularly effective for detoxification and addictions – and I have worked together with the Drugs Task Force in Ireland in training their staff to apply the Nada 5 point protocol. In 2022 I completed a one year training in equine sports injury massage and I also practice acupressure, cupping therapy and acupuncture on horses as well. I am currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy at ICPPD. I am a professional member of AFPA and I fully adhere to their code of ethics which ensures safe conduct and complete client confidentiality. Back pain, prolapsed discs, sports injuries, joint pain, arthritis and whiplash. Fertility, IVF support, menstrual disorders, cystitis and morning sickness

Stress, insomnia, nervous tension and fatigue. Digestive disorders, IBS, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, acid regurgitation and obesity. Asthma, sinusitis, hayfever and low immune function. High blood pressure and palpitations. Stop smoking and addictions. How does it work? Chinese Medicine recognises that our body’s physical health is intimately connected to the lifestyle we are living, as well as our psychological and emotional well-being. When the Qi (our body’s essential life force) becomes blocked or depleted due to causes such as an injury, stress, emotional issues or our diet and lifestyle, then an imbalance develops. This can manifest as pain, fatigue, poor immune function, digestive problems and emotional disturbances including stress and depression. Eventually if left un-treated, the imbalance will become more severe and illness ensues. Treatment aims to restore the body’s own natural in-built ability to heal itself, to remove the underlying causes of pain and disease and to restore a greater sense of relaxation and well-being to our life.

"When you were growing up, did anyone ever help you learn how to feel your feelings?
It not, you might notice that you either stuff them down, get overwhelmed and act out on them, or alternate between the two. It doesn’t have to be that way. It’s possible to learn how to do feelings much more effectively, comfortably, and in ways that don’t end up harming you or your relationships."

"I want to be clear that other people’s activated/protective/angry/controlling parts are protecting them and not us.

Other people’s parts can cause real damage to us (and to them, too), and creating boundaries of distance can be very Self led.

Yet, we can create these boundaries while still having understanding and compassion toward the other person, realizing it’s not about us but about their pain.

We do not need to hate someone or wish them harm to set boundaries. Love and boundaries can coexist.

Our boundaries are not about punishing the other person, but about caring for ourselves.

Sometimes, if a person’s parts are acting out against us, we may need to grieve an inability to be in relationship with them, but we can get curious about the pain underneath their actions.

Unfortunately, we cannot make another person get curious about their own suffering, but we can NOT allow it to cause us harm in body or mind."

This is a powerful exercise, courtesy of 'The Ordinary Sacred'.

"For example, in the past, a friend did something that felt very rejecting to my system.

Many parts in my inner family felt pain, and one wanted to immediately go to her to tell her how insensitive and cruel she was while another wanted to tell my partner all about the offense.

I realized, however, that things usually go better when I listen inside first, so I listened to the grievances of my raging parts inside and validated their unmet needs.

I asked to go to the young parts holding pain and held them lovingly.

Once all these parts felt seen and heard, they relaxed, and I felt calm and clear.

I no longer felt the need to rage or vent. Instead, I could speak calmly and concisely for my parts, without charge, and could advocate for my own needs.

This doesn’t mean I didn’t speak at all to my friend or my partner, but that I spoke FOR my parts rather than as my parts, which is a very different experience."

This is what Richard Schwartz calls “being our own primary caregiver.”
