This video pops up every couple of years in my feed and it always makes me want to post it everywhere.

One of the topics that has come up regularly in my work over the years is resilience. I think this video sums it up.

We don't talk about struggles. We don't acknowledge the challenges we overcome on a daily basis, instead in this era of Social Media, "picture perfect" has become the norm. We are being led to believe we can have anything and everything without exerting any effort. This is the sad reality of the content young people are being fed daily.

In reality, it is through our disappointments, our mistakes and what we perceive as failures, that we genuinely learn and grow as individuals. This is the reality we need to expose young people to.

Thinking of all the young people doing their pre-exams at the moment. This is an opportunity to realise what you don't know, what you don't understand. Use the experience to focus your study and learning. As with every achievement, you need to do the work, to put in the effort, to live the experience . Otherwise you can't truly appreciate the outcome.

How often do you put off doing something because you don't have it all figured out?

How often do you hold yourself back while you strive for perfection? The perfect conditions, the perfect opportunity, a guarantee of the perfect result.....

Like is a journey. Along the way we experience, we learn, we grow. Most of the time this happens because things do not work out as we had envisioned. We make mistakes, we get things wrong, we fall short ..... BUT This is how we learn and grow.

From this moment forward are you willing to commit to starting, to doing, to taking imperfect steps?

The growth, the learning, the improvement all comes from starting, from doing, from allowing yourself move forward when perfection is not yet guaranteed.
