Hairy Henry Hairy Henry offers Therapeutic Riding, Care Farming and Animal-assisted Therapy to children and adul All have been trained specifically for this job.

We offer Therapeutic Riding sessions and Care Farm activities on our small farm in West Cork. Our team consists of Sandra, a fully qualified Therapeutic Riding Coach with 28 years experience of working with horses and 24 years of working in the health and social sector, and our extremely friendly and experienced therapy horses, Henry, Winnie, Flora, Daisy and Dolly, and lots of other farm animals

- our two dogs Trudi and Turnip, the flock of sheep - Sean, Otto, Tilda, Harriet and Mr. Lammy, the donkeys Nell, Eeyore, Gordon and Gulliver the geese and ducks and chicken and the rabbits Alex and Oreo and their families. We also offer animal-assisted therapeutic outreach visitis with our team of dogs, rabbits, sheep and donkey to nursing homes and hospitals - please get in touch for more information! We got a wonderfully warm welcome this afternoon at Diamond's Equine Renvyle - The Connemara Pony National Stud
Horse nuts and hay for Skye, cuppa tea for me, followed by a full tour of the stud and the Renvyle peninsula, now feasting on homecooked stew, more tea and chocolates. A warm shower and cosy bed waiting, but first we must check out the beautiful local beach!!!

Wild Atlantic Ride Fundraiser

Day 4: Delphi to Kylemore Farm - 28km

Thanks to Pat who served a superb breakfast, and the lovely grass and soft straw bed, we all set off rested and with energy.
We were treated to magnificent views of the mountains and the sea, and the weather was as good as it gets here these days!
Nice stop over in Leenaun at The Purple Door Café where proprietor Conor treated us to a good strong coffee.
Then inland for a while, meeting so many people who were curious about our journey and supported our fundraiser, thank you all!
Turnip's booties are helping him it seems, but I have to keep an eye on them as he lost one twice so far, luckily I noticed and we were able to backtrack and get it.
A grand field for Skye and sheltered stable for Turnip and me awaited us at Kylemore Farm, where a Connemara pony breeding programme is underway, so Skye had very pretty neighbours indeed.
The farm must have been massive once upon a time, judging by the many buildings, but now is in bad need of restoration, but you can still see glimpses of its old glory.

Wild Atlantic Ride Fundraiser

Day 3: Killadoon to Delphi - 20km

Big thank you to Shauna for a safe warm place for the night for all of us, it made everything that bit more manageable.
Really nice to get to visit the real horsebackwest , after following all the posts on facebook, what a great place!
The almost sunny dry morning didn't last long, and it started raining from 12 onwards, followed by no phone coverage from 2pm, but we found our overnight stay anyways with my hands on navigation skills of riding up a random boreen that looked like it could be the one...The dry barn filled with straw for Turnip and me and the green field for Skye were so very welcomed by us all. Thanks to Colm, and to his uncle Pat who let us use his beautiful home for shower, cooking and a cuppa.
It was good to have a break from the internet, just sit and hear the quiet and see the views, and sleep a lot!

Wild Atlantic Ride Fundraiser

Day 2: Louisburgh to Killadoon - 15km

A nice leisurely start with coffee and croissants delivered by Peter - thank you! It was just so nice to see Wendy happily minding her little herd, and I left her knowing she'll be just fine!
First stop Louisburgh for midday, where we met more lovely people, giving us apples, dog treats and cookies, then we carried on southwards with what we could only guess were beautiful views of the sea and the mountains, because the weather took a turn for the worse with rain and wind.
So nice to be greeted by Shauna of horsebackwest . A stable and a bucket of mash for Skye to dry up and fill up a bit, a field for her for the night, a meal and bed for me, and new friends for Turnip. And I got to wash donkeys Peggy and Eleanor for some filming event they are taking part in tomorrow, a first for me, never had shampooed a donkey before, and I was relieved how well they took it, I think mine would have protested with proper donkey kicks!
In the meantime, back home, things happened that leave me very upset tonight but that's for another time to share. I will carry on with our journey for now, stopping here and now won't make things right again either, and the peace and space and loneliness of the hills and the sea here are what helps come to terms with the big change awaiting us at home when it is time.

Wild Atlantic Ride Fundraiser
Day 1: Westport to Louisburgh - 22km
On the road again! After some photo shoots, receiving first donations and the gift of two giant carrots for Skye from a greengrocer in Westport, we picked up our trail again from last year and heading out on the Croagh Patrick road. The big lump of a mountain was covered in thick cloud- it is 31 years ago when I ran up it like a spring chicken, but today, we stayed at its bottom and rested our bones. We had a relatively uneventful ride to Louisburgh where we are staying on the land of Wendy's owner Peter. Wendy moved here as a weanling four years ago, she is our Winnie's daughter and it is so wonderful to see her again, what a pretty young lady! She must have recognised me, standing at the gate, staring at me while I unpacked, waiting for cuddles, very sweet.
I was worried about the weather, but actually, even when it started raining, I was fine, it is still relatively warm and the drops peeled off my good raincoat. Skye was contentedly plodding on, and Turnip is just thrilled to be part of the team again.
And the prospect that with this ride, we might just draw some attention to our gofundme to be able to run our teen programme again is a huge motivator for me, rain or shine !
