Electric Picnic

Electric Picnic

If you're heading to Electric Picnic this weekend, stay safe and look out for your friends.

🚗 Plan your journey and never drive under the influence.
🚑 Know where the medical centre and first aid points are and don't be afraid to get help.
👥 If you're planning to use drugs, tell your friends. It is always best to avoid using any, but if you do, start low, go slow and avoid mixing.
💊 Follow HSE Drugs.ie for drug updates and warnings from the festival.
🥤 Stay hydrated and drink water between alcoholic beverages.

Most importantly, enjoy your weekend and take care of each other! 🥳

Tá níos mó riosca ag baint le meascáin áirithe drugaí ná a chéile agus ní féidir a bheith cinnte céard a tharlóidh má mheasctar drugaí. 🚑🏥

Remember safety with the return of schools and colleges. Pedestrians and cyclists remember you need to be visible and look out for danger also. Parents have that chat with kids and advise them on the dangers and make sure they get home safely every day.

Back to school is just around the corner, so we're urging all motorists to take care on the roads, particularly near schools and in built up areas.

Be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists, we all share the road.

We'd ask parents to ensure that your child is visible when walking or cycling to school, and if you're driving always make sure everyone has put on their seat belts.

Cuimhnigh, tóg go bog é agus tiomáin go cúramach.

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow, celebrate safely and if you don’t get the result you were expecting, remember there’s other pathways to get the job you wish. There’s plenty of support so don’t panic.

Stay safe

Ahead of tomorrow's Leaving Cert results, we're appealing to parents to talk to your child about being sensible when it comes to alcohol, drugs and going out.

While we want everyone to enjoy themselves and the celebrations, it's important to be safe - make sure they've made a plan for getting home, that they know to never drive under the influence, to stay with their friends while out and to call 999 in an emergency, no matter what has happened.

Some safety information for anyone looking to view the eclipse tomorrow evening - once we have no clouds ☺️. Protect your eyes ☀️

A partial solar eclipse will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 12 August.
Looking directly at the sun can cause serious and permanent eye damage. If you plan to view the eclipse, always use certified solar eclipse glasses or a solar viewer and make sure children are supervised.
Ordinary sunglasses are not safe for viewing an eclipse. Never look directly at the sun through binoculars or a telescope.
Protect your eyes and enjoy the eclipse safely.

🔥 FIRE CAUTION ⚠️

Yesterday afternoon and into the evening we deployed all our fire stations in response to numerous outdoor fires, field fires and gorse fires which damaged farm machinery, threatened property and damaged local flora, fauna and wildlife habitats.

During this extended spell of warm weather the grounds are extremely dry and fires can start easily and spread rapidly.

We appeal to all people to be very careful, vigilant and to:

🚫 Not light fires
🚫 Not use portable & disposable BBQs
🚭 Dispose of smoking materials appropriately
🧯 Supervise farm machinery and have extinguishing media to hand
🍖 If using a BBQ please supervise, make sure not to be near other combustibles and ensure extinguished after use.
☎️ If see a fire report to the Fire Service by calling 999/112.
🚒 Not obstruct access or egress of our Fire Appliances to a fire.
👨‍🚒 Follow our Fire Officer and Firefighters guidance when we arrive to a fire.

We hope everyone enjoys the lovely weather while being vigilant to the fire risk and protecting our local environment.

Well done to all our crews for their work yesterday bringing the fires under control and extinguishing same.
