A week of roses. 🌹

We have just returned from Simppar, the international exhibition of raw materials for perfumery, where we met growers and suppliers and spent long days smelling beautiful oils and extracts from around the world, exquisite cinnamon from Sri Lanka, sparkling lavender from Nyons, and a wonderful vanilla extract from Madagascar that I would love to use in Gorse.

In Grasse, Marianne brought us to smell the luminous rosa centifolia flowers that we use in our Wild Rose perfume. Oceans of petals waiting to be picked and distilled, magic! 🌿

On returning home, we found our own roses in full bloom, the wild burnet rose, inspiration for Wild Rose perfume, and the apothecary roses, rosa gallica, which we planted at the Perfumery nearly thirty years ago.

St Tola goats cheese with local honey and fresh thyme from the garden, one of our favourite summer salads, is back on the menu.

We have been serving St Tola goats cheese from Siobhán’s family farm in Ennistymon for over 10 years now. Their care for the goats, and the beautiful cheese they produce, make them wonderful neighbours to work with. A visit to the farm is a treat.

Working with local suppliers and finding the best sustainable growers and farmers has always been an important part of life at the Perfumery.

The Burren hedgerows and herb gardens are part of our everyday surroundings here at the Perfumery, changing with the seasons. I love the explosion of scent and colour at this time of year. The creamy starbursts of the hawthorn blossoms are a particular favourite.

There is something comforting about working with herbs, the scent of mint, rose petals and elderflower filling the room as we mix our teas. Our organic herbal teas are still blended and packed on site, just as they have been since I first created them with herbalist Vivienne Campbell in 2005.

A burst of pink Sea Thrift brightening the limestone along the Flaggy Shore as Lana and I enjoy a walk 🌸

On the edge of the Burren, the wild Atlantic coastline inspires our Aran Eau de Toilette with it's fresh citrus notes layered with seaweeds, mosses and lichens, capturing the scent of Ireland’s west coast.

I sometimes feel that we live on a ship here, washed by the weather of this great ocean.
