Men have a pelvic floor too β and pelvic floor problems can have a significant impact on comfort, confidence and quality of life.
Iβm Modinat Sanni, Chartered Physiotherapist and Pelvic Health Specialist at SANNI Physio & Wellness, and I provide specialist assessment and treatment for male pelvic health problems at our Little Island clinic.
Male pelvic floor symptoms can develop for many different reasons, including prolonged sitting or desk work, long hours driving, surgery, injury or trauma, heavy lifting, chronic constipation, stress, poor posture or changes in the way the pelvic floor muscles coordinate.
Symptoms may include:
β’ Pelvic or perineal pain
β’ Pain or discomfort when sitting
β’ Urinary frequency, urgency or leakage
β’ Difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel
β’ Pain during or after ej*******on
β’ Erectile difficulties in some cases
β’ Groin or lower abdominal discomfort
β’ Persistent pelvic tension or pain
At SANNI, treatment starts with understanding why the problem is happening. Depending on your assessment, your treatment may include hands-on physiotherapy, pelvic floor retraining, breathing and relaxation techniques, external electrotherapy, personalised exercises and rehabilitation.
We can also use advanced shockwave therapy where clinically appropriate, particularly as part of the management of certain persistent pelvic pain presentations. The aim is to support pain reduction, local circulation, tissue recovery and improved function alongside physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
You donβt have to feel embarrassed about pelvic health symptoms, and you donβt have to simply learn to live with them. Assessment comes first, because every manβs pelvic floor problem is different.
