Cervical Screening Awareness Week

This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, an important reminder of how regular screening can help protect your health.

In Ireland, free cervical screening is available through CervicalCheck for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 65. If you’re aged 25–29, you’ll usually be invited every 3 years, and from age 30–65 every 5 years.

Screening can help detect changes early, often before symptoms appear, making it one of the most effective tools we have in preventing cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when abnormalities are detected early. Yet many people put off attending appointments due to busy lives, anxiety, embarrassment, or simply forgetting. If you’re due your screening, this week is a great opportunity to make it a priority. It is estimated to prevent 3 out of every 4 cases of cervical cancer.

A simple appointment could make a life-changing difference.

🩸 World Blood Donor Day – 14th June 🩸

Today is a chance to recognise and thank the incredible people who donate blood and help save lives every single day.

In Ireland, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service needs to collect around 3,000 blood donations every week to maintain a safe national blood supply, and yet only a small percentage of the population donate regularly. One in four of us may need a blood transfusion at some point in our lives.

Did you know that O Negative blood is known as the “universal donor” blood type? This means it can be given to patients of any blood group in an emergency when there isn’t time to determine their blood type. Although only about 8% of people in Ireland have O Negative blood (me being one of them), it accounts for around 15% of the blood issued to hospitals, making it especially valuable.

Health is something we often take for granted until we need it. Blood donors help ensure that life-saving treatment is there when it matters most. A single donation can make an enormous difference to someone facing surgery, illness, injury, or ongoing medical treatment.

If you’re eligible to donate, perhaps World Blood Donor Day is the perfect reminder to consider giving this priceless gift. You never know whose life it may help save.

Thank you to every blood donor for your generosity and kindness. ❤️

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Dad. ❤️

Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind. Today, I think of all the lessons you taught me, your love and support, and the memories that continue to bring both smiles and tears.

Though you’re no longer here, you’re always in our hearts. I miss your smile, your wisdom, advice and your presence more than words can say. Thank you for the person you helped me become.

Sending love to heaven on your special day. Happy Birthday, Dad and Uncle Michael. ❤️

This week is National Carers’ Week, and as someone who has been a carer myself, I know just how much love, dedication, and energy goes into looking after others.

Being a carer often means putting everyone else’s needs first. It can mean long days, sleepless nights, emotional strain, and carrying responsibilities that many people never see. So often, carers become so focused on caring for others that they forget to care for themselves.

If you’re a carer, please remember that your wellbeing matters too. Taking even a few moments for yourself isn’t selfish…. it’s essential. Having walked that path myself, I understand that sometimes the person who needs care most is the carer.

This National Carers’ Week, let’s recognise and appreciate the incredible work carers do every day, often quietly and without recognition.

“The moment you start acting like life is a blessing, it starts feeling like one.” — Unknown

It’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong, especially when life feels busy, stressful, or overwhelming. But sometimes a small shift in perspective can make a big difference.

When we take time to appreciate the simple things, our health, our loved ones, a moment of peace, or even a deep breath, we begin to notice the blessings that were there all along.

Gratitude doesn’t make challenges disappear, but it can change how we experience them.

What is one thing you’re grateful for today?

I had a lovely coffee morning with the team from Mindspace Mayo & members of Network Ireland Mayo. It was a privilege to get a tour of the Mindspace offices and see how inviting and comfortable the rooms they have to welcome young people in and help them.

World Environment Day

When we think about the environment, we often think about the world around us. But our bodies have an environment too.

The foods we eat, the thoughts we think, the stress we carry, the quality of our sleep, and the people and spaces we surround ourselves with all influence our health and wellbeing.

Just as nature thrives when it is cared for, our bodies function best when we create a supportive environment for healing, balance, and restoration.

What in your environment is helping you thrive, and what might need a little attention?

Small changes can make a big difference…. both for our planet and for ourselves. 💚

Massage is just a luxury.
This is one of the most common myths I hear.

Holistic massage considers the whole person—body, mind, and emotional wellbeing. Physical tension, stress, poor sleep, and the pressures of daily life can all leave their mark on the body.

Taking time for a treatment isn’t just about easing tight muscles. It’s an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and give your body the support it needs to move from a state of stress into one of rest and repair.

We often prioritise everything and everyone else, putting our own wellbeing at the bottom of the list. Yet when we take care of ourselves, we are often better able to care for those around us.

Looking after your health and wellbeing isn’t a luxury. It’s an investment in yourself.

Do you see massage as an occasional treat, or as part of your overall wellbeing routine?
