We have exciting news!

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has become a proud member of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network to help create a more inclusive and accessible environment.

Because Cystic Fibrosis is a non-visible condition, support and empathy are often overlooked. The Sunflower helps people share, if they choose, that they may need extra support, understanding, or more time.

Arthritis isn’t “just for older people.”

On the Sunflower Conversations podcast Marc Williams, Arthritis Action shares how arthritis can affect people at any age. And because it’s often invisible, many people living with arthritis are left having to explain their pain, fatigue, or need for support.

There are over 100 types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms can include pain, swelling, stiffness, and joints that feel hot or red.

This month, we’re raising awareness of Arthritis 🌻

Arthritis is a term used to describe conditions that affect the joints and can cause symptoms such as pain, stiffness, swelling and difficulty with movement. For some people, these experiences and support needs may not be immediately visible, and they can vary from day to day.

An estimated 607 million people globally are living with osteoarthritis, making it one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions globally. And around 17.6 million people are living with rheumatoid arthritis.

At Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, we’re proud to support greater awareness, understanding and inclusion for people living with arthritis and other non-visible disabilities.

A reminder that not every disability can be seen.

Dr Imogen Brooks faced daily judgement and frustration after cancer treatment for squamous cell carcinoma, a common type of head and neck cancer, affected her speech. People avoided conversations and made assumptions about what she said.

Thanks to a ground-breaking prosthetic tongue, Dr Brooks can communicate more clearly. As the rates of cancer increase, particularly in Europe, which only has 9% of the world's population, but contributes 21% of the global cases of cancer, more than ever support, kindness and understanding become crucial.
