A big thank you to our partners at Ignyto! โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Implementing Salesforce as our new CRM has felt like a big (and honestly, sometimes daunting!) project for a small charity like ours; but the Ignyto team have made it feel possible every step of the way.

A special mention for Katie, who has been so patient, supportive and generous with her knowledge throughout our journey. We've learned so much from working together and we're feeling more confident and excited about the tool we're building for our centre.

Thank you, Ignyto, for helping us build stronger foundations behind the scenes - so we can keep showing up for our community. ๐Ÿ™

A blessed visit โœจ

We were delighted and deeply honoured to welcome Sister Veronica Fuhrmann CJ, General Superior of the Congregation of Jesus, to Loreto Centre Crumlin.

We had the opportunity to share our centre with her - the results and stories we're so proud of, as well as our plans for the future - followed by a lovely tea time with our staff.

Our sincere thanks to Sister Veronica for taking the time to visit us. We wish her safe travels back to Rome. ๐Ÿ™

๐ŸŒธ Woman of the Week

You suggested her - and you were absolutely right. This week we're celebrating Dr Kathleen Lynn. ๐Ÿ’›

Born in Co. Mayo in 1874, she qualified as a doctor at a time when hospitals turned women away. She was refused a post simply because of her gender. She became a suffragist, a socialist and Chief Medical Officer of the Irish Citizen Army. During the 1916 Rising she was stationed at City Hall and, after her commanding officer was killed, took command herself, becoming the most senior-ranking woman of the Rising.

But perhaps her greatest legacy came after. In 1919, with Madeleine ffrench-Mullen, she founded St Ultan's โ€” the first hospital for infants in Ireland, and the only one run entirely by women - when Dublin's infant mortality was among the highest in Europe. She gave her life to the children of the poor.

There's now a campaign to name Ireland's new children's hospital in her honour โ€” a fitting tribute to a remarkable woman.

This is exactly the kind of story our Women, Gender & Social Justice programme explores: the Irish women who changed the world and were too often left out of the history books.

Who else should we celebrate? Tell us below ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒธ Woman of the Week

In December 1918, a woman won a seat in the British House of Commons for the very first time, and she did it from a prison cell.

Her name was Constance Markievicz. Born into privilege in 1868 and raised at Lissadell in Co. Sligo, she turned her back on a life of comfort to fight for Irish freedom and for women. She took part in the 1916 Easter Rising (her death sentence was commuted "because of her gender"), stood with the workers during the 1913 Lockout, and โ€” while imprisoned in Holloway for her activism โ€” was elected the first woman MP, winning 66% of the vote in Dublin's St Patrick's.

True to her principles, she refused to take her seat at Westminster. Instead, she helped build the first Dรกil and became Minister for Labour - one of the first women in the world to hold a cabinet post. She gave away most of her fortune and spent her final years caring for Dublin's poor.

"I am pledged as a rebel," she said, "an unconvertible rebel."

Our Women, Gender & Social Justice programme explores exactly these stories - the Irish women who changed the world and were too often left out of the history books.

๐ŸŒบ In The Wizard of Oz, it's a field of poppies that nearly stops Dorothy and her friends in their tracks, until courage and the people beside them, help them wake up and keep going.

87 years since the film first hit cinemas, that idea still feels true here at Loreto Centre Crumlin: growth rarely happens alone. With a little support, encouragement and community around us, anyone can find their way forward. ๐ŸŒˆ
