At Children’s Health Ireland, our volunteers are the heartbeat of our organisation. From welcoming patients and families, providing wayfinding support, offering one-to-one family assistance, facilitating recreational play, maintaining hospital gardens, and supporting outreach programme clinics, their compassion helps transform hospital visits into more positive and comforting experiences.

Today, we extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and kindness across CHI hospitals and urgent care centres. Your dedication makes a difference every single day. ❤️

Say hello to Noodles! 👋

Yesterday, we were delighted to launch our Needle Heroes information hub on our website which was created by and for children, young people and families who attend our services in collaboration with staff. We were also delighted to announce the winner of our mascot naming contest, Olivia, who has picked Noodles as the name of our Needle Heroes mascot 🤩

Our hope is for Needle Heroes to help alleviate distress and support children and young people in feeling more informed and in control of their experiences and procedures.

Carers and staff can choose from a range of resources suited to the child’s age, stage and needs. Families can then share their plans and preferences with their healthcare providers in advance of their procedures so together, everyone can be a Needle Hero! 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️

Thank you to the Children’s Health Foundation who support initiatives like this to help children and young people in hospital.

Exciting progress for rare disease research in Ireland💙

A major congratulations to the team in Children’s Health Ireland on the launch of the national Angelman Syndrome ASTRAL study which is an important step toward improving understanding, care, and future treatment access for children, young people and families living with Angelman Syndrome.

This pioneering project will help build Ireland’s first dedicated national dataset for Angelman Syndrome, strengthening research collaboration and preparing the healthcare system for emerging therapies and clinical trials.

A special thank you to the Children’s Health Foundation for funding and supporting vital research like this. Investment in paediatric research has a direct impact on children, families, and the future of healthcare in Ireland.

Research changes lives and this is exactly the kind of collaboration and ambition that creates real impact for patients and families navigating rare conditions every day.

“Research is care, care is research” 💙

Today, Children’s Health Ireland hosted our annual Research & Innovation Day which brings together staff, researchers, academic partners, patients and families to showcase how research is helping shape better healthcare for children and young people.

Research improves care, drives innovation, and helps us build services around the real experiences and needs of children, young people and families.

From collaboration across organisations to listening directly to young people, today highlighted the power of working together to create healthier futures.

Today, on International Clinical Trials Day, we’re recognising the incredible work of clinical research teams who help advance better treatments and care for children and young people. ❤️

Today, we’d like to spotlight the role of Clinical Research Nurses, who support patients and families throughout every stage of the research journey from coordinating studies and monitoring care to providing reassurance and advocacy. Their work is at the heart of delivering safe, compassionate, and innovative healthcare.

Take a look at what one of our Clinical Research Nurses, Ruth, does in her day by using the link in our bio.

Last week in CHI, we celebrated Kangaroo Care Day 💛

Kangaroo Care, also known as skin-to-skin contact, is a vital part of care for sick babies in Children’s Health Ireland. 🦘

Even when babies need life-saving equipment or intensive treatment, simple moments of connection, from skin-to-skin cuddles to hand holding can have incredible benefits for both baby and parents. These moments:

✨ Helps regulate temperature, heartbeat and breathing
✨ Supports bonding and infant development
✨ Improves sleep and recovery
✨ Supports breastfeeding and parental wellbeing

At Children’s Health Ireland, family-centred care is at the heart of everything we do because even the smallest touch can make the biggest difference. 💕

Meet some of our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and find out why they love being apart of YAC! 💚💙💜

YAC is a group of you by people aged between 13 and 22 years old who share their experiences as users of our hospital services in order to inform policy, practices, research and the development of services both within CHI and on a national basis.

We’re incredibly excited to announce that our Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) have officially arrived at the National Children’s Hospital Ireland! 🚗🤖

AGVs will play a vital role in supporting hospital teams by transporting food, medicines, linens, sterile supplies, and other essential items safely and efficiently throughout the hospital. Twenty AGVs have been introduced to help reduce physical strain on staff, improve safety, and allow healthcare teams to focus even more of their time on patient care.

Designed to operate reliably around the clock, the AGVs will help power one of Ireland’s most advanced healthcare facilities, supporting faster deliveries, smarter logistics, and a better experience for patients, families, and staff alike.

We’re thrilled to see this innovative technology becoming part of the future in paediatrics and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will make every day in our NCHI! ❤️

Every day, you bring skill, compassion, comfort and support to children, young people and their families across CHI.

Your dedication makes a difference in every ward, clinic and service. Thank you for everything you do - not just today, but every day!

Drop a comment thanking your special nurse! 📣

: The illustrations at the National Children’s Hospital Ireland are made of 3 triangles, symbolising the coming together of 3 hospital sites! ❤️

When we move to NCHI, we’ll unite CHI at Crumlin, Tallaght & Temple Street.

From then on, there will be:🏥 1 main hospital for emergency care & inpatient stays; the National Children’s Hospital Ireland
📍2 urgent care centres; CHI at Connolly and CHI at Tallaght

Children and young people across our sites are already helping us to make this the best hospital it can be, particularly when it comes to art 👀 keep an eye out in CHI at Crumlin this weekend for a special art creation being made that’ll be featured in our NCHI!
