🚨 Your Spine’s Silent Drama:

The 4 Stages of Disc Herniation

Think your back pain is “just a tweak”? It might be your spinal disc throwing a full-on rebellion. Here’s the progression most people don’t know about — until it’s too late.

Stage 1: Bulging / Degeneration

The disc starts drying out and losing its cushion. It bulges outward like a tire about to pop… but hasn’t torn yet. Often no major pain — just stiffness or mild ache. Your wake-up call!

Stage 2: Protrusion / Prolapse
The inner gel pushes harder against the outer wall. It’s starting to poke out but still contained. This is when that shooting leg or arm pain often shows up. Nerve irritation is real.

Stage 3: Extrusion
The gel breaks THROUGH the outer wall but stays connected. Now we’re talking serious inflammation and often intense sciatica or weakness. Your body’s yelling for help.

Stage 4: Sequestration

The disc fragment fully breaks off and floats in the spinal canal. This can cause massive nerve compression… or sometimes (weirdly) sudden relief if pressure releases.

Early stages respond amazingly to physical therapy , posture fixes, core strength, and smart movement. Even later stages often improve without surgery.

Don’t wait for Stage 4 to see a doctor. Lift smart, move daily, and strengthen that core like your spine depends on it.

This can be accompanied with a feeling of stiffness when getting up from sitting.

Low back pain is often the result of sustained posture with decreased flexibility in the hips.

Still dealing with stubborn heel pain?

If orthotics, injections, and rest haven’t brought lasting relief from your plantar fasciitis, it may be time to look beyond the foot.

Myotherapy can help address contributing factors such as tight calves, overloaded foot muscles, and dysfunctional movement patterns that may keep putting strain on the plantar fascia.

Rather than simply focusing on temporary symptom relief, we work to reduce tension, restore movement, and address the underlying issues contributing to your pain.

If you’re tired of temporary fixes and ready to explore a different approach, this could be the missing piece.

Low back pain is common — but the cause isn’t always the same.

See below for the most frequent reasons it shows up:

• Poor posture that loads the spine all day

• Muscle strain and overuse from lifting, sports, or sudden movement

• Disc and joint problems (herniation, degeneration, arthritis)

• Nerve compression — including sciatica and stenosis — that can send pain, numbness, or weakness into the hips or legs

Many cases of Lower back pain improve with posture, core strength, low-impact activity, heat or ice

That nagging ache on the outside of your elbow? You are not imagining it, and you are far from alone.

Tennis elbow, and its inside elbow sibling - golfer's elbow - often build from repetitive load… think gripping, typing, lifting and the odd weekend DIY hero moment. The tendons get grumpy and let you know about it.

The good news is it is usually very manageable.

Targeted manual therapy and the right loading plan can support recovery and help settle the area.

If your elbow has been complaining for weeks, give us a call on 0894674402 and we can work through it with you.

Do your headaches start in your neck?

Not every headache starts in your head.

Sometimes, tight or overworked muscles in the neck can contribute to pain that travels into the head, face, or around the eyes.

Three muscles that commonly play a role are:

• Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) – may refer pain towards the forehead, temples, or around the eyes.

• Upper trapezius – often associated with neck tension and pain around the temples.

• Suboccipital muscles – small muscles at the base of the skull that can contribute to pain around or behind the eyes.

When these muscles become tight or develop sensitive trigger points, they can contribute to headache patterns that may feel similar to tension or sinus headaches.

If you regularly experience headaches alongside neck tension, it may be worth having your neck and posture assessed to identify what could be contributing to your symptoms.

What Do We Notice When You Walk Into Our Clinic?

Before we even begin treatment, we’re already observing.

How you sit.
How you walk.
How you breathe.
How you move.

These small details can reveal a lot about what your body is telling us.

At our clinic, we don’t just treat where it hurts. We look at the bigger picture to understand why it hurts.
Because sometimes, pain is the messenger — not the culprit.
