Meet Niamh, a Breast Cancer Ireland Patient Ambassador. The day after her 30th birthday, she was diagnosed with stage three, triple positive breast cancer. With no family history and symptoms that appeared suddenly, the news came as a huge shock.

Today, Niamh shares her story to raise awareness that breast cancer can happen at any age. Her message is clear: check your breasts monthly, know the eight key signs, and never assume it cannot happen to you. As a young woman, the physical changes of treatment, including losing her hair and breast, affected her self-confidence, but the emotional and mental challenges were even greater. Facing a medically induced menopause, fertility uncertainty, a slower pace of life, and financial strain became part of her reality, yet she says these were secondary to the cancer diagnosis itself.

Niamh counts herself as one of the lucky ones. She is grateful her cancer was found early, that she received treatment, and that she has responded well, knowing many others do not have the same outcome. Her journey reflects the message of Breast Cancer Know More: early detection saves lives πŸ“’
