Santry Hall welcomed Paul’s Pet Parties as part of the final activity in their summer programme, with a chance to meet and learn about a range of exotic animals.

There were a few nervous faces at the start, but those nerves soon disappeared as everyone got involved. By the end of the session, people were confidently holding spiders, snakes and some of the other animals. 🕷️🐍

A great experience, with plenty of opportunities to try something new, overcome a few fears and enjoy the afternoon together.

A big thank you to Paul’s Pet Parties for a fantastic visit and to everyone at Santry Hall for making it such a memorable way to finish the summer programme. 👏

👑 Our Queen Valerie celebrates 70 in style! 👑

Valerie from Artane celebrated her milestone 70th birthday in style with a fabulous party at Clontarf Castle, surrounded by her housemates, family and many friends. 💜

Valerie was supported by her key workers and the Artane team to plan her special birthday celebration, making sure the evening was just how she wanted it.

🎶 DJ Andy kept everyone on the dance floor with music throughout the evening, and there was even a very special surprise for Valerie – a video message from Daniel O’Donnell, for his number one fan! ⭐️

🎓 Congratulations to our 2026 RNID interns 🎓

Last Friday, we celebrated six students who completed their 36-week paid internship with St Michael’s House as part of the DCU BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability) programme.

Their journey with us began in 2022, and over the past four years they have completed 81 weeks of practice placements, gaining valuable experience and developing their skills.

We’re delighted that all six are now qualified RNIDs and have accepted Staff Nurse positions with St Michael’s House, starting in the coming weeks. 👏

A huge thank you to DCU, our Nursing teams, preceptors, PICs, colleagues and the people we support for their ongoing support and contribution to their learning and development.

Your expertise and commitment are helping to shape the next generation of RNIDs. 💙

We’re delighted to have all six staying with St Michael’s House and wish them every success in their new roles! 🌟

🏌️ Meet Josh from Abhainn Swords!

Josh has a real passion for sport, and that interest has helped him secure paid employment at Halpenny’s Golf Driving Range & Padel Courts in Cloghran.

Since May 2026, Josh has been working there once a week. His role includes collecting baskets, fixing tees, collecting golf balls and helping to keep the area tidy.

A big thank you to Dan, Dave and all the team at Halpenny’s Driving Range for welcoming Josh and welcoming him as a valued member of the team 💙

Well done to Kerrie from Adare Hub and Michael from Work Options, who have both completed an eight-week work experience placement at Ballymun Leisure Centre. 👏

As part of the WorkAbility partnership with Ballymun Leisure Centre, Kerrie and Michael had the opportunity to explore different roles and gain valuable experience in a busy community setting. 💼

Kerrie worked on reception, welcoming customers, assisting with memberships, taking parking payments and supporting access to the gym and pool.

Michael worked as a leisure attendant, gaining experience in cleaning, gym supervision and setting up for classes.

A big thank you to Peter and the team at Ballymun Leisure Centre for creating these opportunities and for their ongoing support, collaboration and feedback. 🤝

It is great to see WorkAbility partnerships creating real opportunities for people to build skills, confidence and experience in the workplace. 🌱

Some of our Work Options group went along to a book launch hosted at the Irish College of General Practitioners 📚

The book was written by a good friend of Work Options, Dr Noreen Lineen Curtis, and shares real stories and reflections from people in Kenya who work together to make positive changes in their communities.

It is a wonderful read, and the team are looking forward to using the stories in their Work Options classes for discussion and learning 📖

Dr Noreen has volunteered with Brighter Communities Worldwide and has kindly donated all proceeds from the book to the charity, which supports communities in Kenya.

Work Options keep in touch with the charity and will see them again at the National Ploughing Championships in September.

Thank you to Dr Noreen for inviting and for sharing these important stories with us 💙
