From welcoming 14 new foster families to providing educational support, training and school liaison, these figures give just a glimpse of the work happening across our fostering community.

Behind every number is a foster carer, a young person, a family or a member of our team working towards a brighter future. 🌱

When a foster child has additional needs, the right support can make all the difference 💜

At Orchard Fostering, we work closely with carers and young people to make sure support is tailored to each child’s needs. That can include one to one work, help with social skills, independent living skills, therapy and support for the wider foster family too.

Our Education Service also plays an important role, offering one to one learning support, school liaison, homework help, exam support and guidance for next steps after school. We know education can be a real pathway to confidence and growth 🌱

We also have a Foster Carer Ambassador Board and a Young Person Ambassador Board, so carers and young people can help shape the services we provide.

The first week back toolkit 📚

After school time can feel like a big transition, especially in the first week back. A few small things can help make the afternoon feel calmer and more settled, like a snack ready to go, a quiet half hour, a change into comfy clothes and a bit of space before asking lots of questions.

Sometimes the best after school support is simply keeping things steady and gentle ✨

Our September colouring competition winner is Ariana 🌳🦌🐇

We’re delighted to feature her beautiful park scene with deer and a bunny in our Orchard Fostering calendar. It is such a lovely autumn picture and a wonderful reminder of the creativity and care that went into every entry 💜

A notebook can be such a simple but useful tool 💜

When a foster child first arrives, jotting down little things can really help, like, favourite foods, colour, things that help them settle, and the small details that matter most. It can make it easier to stay consistent and helps everyone feel a little more settled.

The small rule that made life easier 💜

Sometimes it is not about having lots of rules, but about having open communication that helps a foster child feel safe and understood. A simple house agreement, a clear routine or talking things through calmly can make day to day life feel much easier for everyone 🌱

The last few days of summer can feel a little easier with a few small bits of prep. For a foster child, it can help to try on the uniform again, pack the school bag together, and agree one calm after school routine before the term starts 📚

It can also help to let the school know about any little things that matter, like a preferred name, a comfort item, a worry to watch for or what usually helps when a day feels too much.

Small things like that can make the return to school feel more settled and less overwhelming ✏️
