Taking an embodied approach to voice our aim is to give you a deeper experience of your own unique voice and how it presents itself in and engages with the world. Voice Jam is a guided, playful, group improvisation session where you can learn vocal improvisation technique, voice production and instant composition. We explore the therapeutic value of body-voice work and totally rock out! Voice Jam i

s a playful vocal session for anyone who wants to sing in a group. We meet every Monday evening at 7pm at Fumbally Court Studio off Clanbrasil St., Dublin 8. This group is facilitated by Regan O'Brien who is a Dublin based performing artist, vocal coach, composer and associate artist at Fumbally Court Studio. The session begins with a mindful, physical and vocal warm up, followed by playful, voice production exercises designed to nurture the acceptance of our sound and challenge our individual and collective vocal range. Regan facilitates a carefully crafted and sensitive approach to voice work through which, each participant can explore and develop their individual sound within a group setting. Voice Jam is about learning how to vocalize your imagination through games and tasks. We reflect on how animals and birds flock in nature to find inspiration for group building exercises, to the laws of attraction for support and survival, re-positioning space for texture and communication; we reference everything that is useful to us to make content for our compositions.

About the The Singing Body

The Singing Body is a gentle investigation into the relationship we have with our voice as a way of expressing ourselves, of communicating meaning and of gaining personal insight, balance and grounding. This course is based in the creative embodiment of voice and breath. Session lengths will vary between 75 and 90 minutes.

You will learn about:

Warming up the body and voice

Attuning to your voice vibrating inside the body

Breathing technique for supporting your voice

Balancing the voice across all of the natural resonant chambers in the body

Physical posture and grounding for ease of producing voice

Vocal characteristics and textures

Vocal ‘flow’ and taking the path of least resistance when producing voice

Balancing the voice resonance inside and outside the body

Being present in the space as you are ‘playing with’ your voice

Working with sounds, songs and poetic movement, you will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how to notice the feed-back from your body-voice and make adjustments to help ease the flow of your voice.
We will learn skills and techniques for being present with the voice, noticing the impulse to express ourselves and our sense of entitlement to express ourselves and be heard, communicating without judgement.
Each week there will be a structured and creative reflection period. We will be making time to contemplate the session and notice the effects of the experience.

About the The Singing Body

The Singing Body is a guided exploration into experiencing the voice-body connection and finding the expression of our true voice. Always attempting to attune to the physical sensations of expressing through voice.
Always attempting to ground ourselves through practicing self-compassion in the times when we aren’t sure.

It is accessible to both absolute beginners and advanced voice work practitioners. There is space for each learner to engage at their own pace and at their own level.

The Singing Body seeks to open space in the body through movement and breath work and then invite the voice to gently vibrate into that space. Allowing the vibration to deepen the body-voice connection creating a sense of presence and confidence in voicing.

Paying attention to the nuance of the dialogue between the breath-support and the vibration of the voice, we create an opportunity to deepen the experience of flow: A sense of accepting, allowing and attuning to our vocal expression as it happens.

A way to express our true voice. Our soul voice.
The next workshop will pay attention to the voice-pelvis connection as a starting place for exploring our soul-song: The natural, organic sound of your moving, feeling body.

Over the 6 weeks we will develop our soul sounds, embracing and experimenting with the range of vocal movement we are capable of creating: Playing with melody, movement, rhythm and chant. Softening into the moving body and deepening our experience of sounding the soul.

I'm really looking forward to giving this online workshop on Sundays (11am-12pm Dublin Time) in January in partnership with Oscailt integrative health centre.
This session is called The Singing Body.
It is a development from The Space Series which I ran last year.
As you may know I am fascinated by the Natural Resonant Chambers in the body for years now. I have been focused on working with specific tones and postures to activate their unique sound qualities and enjoying the sensations of vibrating the voice inside the body.
My clients and I observe a strong feeling of grounding and clarity from the practice.
The place to begin the release of the voice into the external space!
The air filled Spaces inside your body where the voice vibrates to create tone are called the resonant chambers and we have about 7/8 of them.
Connecting with the Space in your internal landscape, we will attune to the physical feeling of vibrating your voice in the body improving vocal tone and pitch balance.
Noticing any emotional reverberations occurring we will focus on Self-Compassion inviting acceptance, stillness and reconciliation through integrated breath work, guided somatic movement and vibrational singing.
Its a lovely feeling.
You will learn the skills to ground and balance the body through supported breath and voice work, opening and activating the resonant chambers in your body to create a sensation of physical harmony. A slow mindful vocal movement to resonate your body harmonics and vibrate into balance.
No previous experience necessary.
Its all about relaxing and making space in the world for self care and singing.
I look forward to singing with you.
You can book directly with me or through the Oscailt website.

This weekend I have been on a mission to practice outside.

I have been in the native woodland in Rathcoole, the hills in Kilmashogue and the beach.
I practiced in each place noticed and contemplated the effects of each environment on the work.

It's been so grounding. In each place I was with a different person. Physical distance well observed.

At this time of year Its important to be sensitive to body temperature and keep warm so as not to hurt the larynx. Its important to stay very connected with the internal vibration rather that focusing outward or 'projecting'.
The gentleness of this way of working creates a spirit of deep listening. Singing with trees and mud.

At this time of year it's easy to access the quiet, the shadow, the soul voice. To hear the detail in the breath, the heartbeat, the twigs snap.

A time to embrace the internal. Find the night vision.

I feel like this way of working is a clear next step for me. It makes sense right now for certain elements of the work to be experienced with the support of nature.

With a long term view to keeping moving, thinking, feeling, singing body connected and bright... an occasional outdoor session feels sensational.

How does that sound to you?

I have been blown away by chatting to all of my prospective new clients on the phone this week.
Thank you all for getting in touch.
What fascinating, generous, courageous folk you are.

I'm deeply grateful and privileged to hear your stories.
It is abundantly clear to me that the journey of the voice is hard won and requires the power of vulnerability.
*
*
I'm glad that the kind of people who feel drawn to my practice are really my kinda people.
*
*
Mid October I'll kick off with two new voices. I'm really looking forward to working with you both.
*
By this time I will have one more space available.
*
So if you are interested in exploring your relationship with your own authentic voice, playing with vocal extensions, singing your heart out, slaying that presentation, practicing your job interview... C'mon!
It's your voice.
Use it.
DM for a chat about your voice.
I want to hear what you have to say.
