Well, I wouldn’t start by working harder. Controversial?
📌Let me explain: I’d start by getting more strategic, so that I know exactly where I’m going, why, and what’s required. Otherwise, I risk being ‘airy fairy’ with my energy rather than investing my energy and hard work where it actually matters. Do you know what I mean?
👋Save this post to steal these steps to use as your career progression ‘to do’ list.
1. Get clear on what “progress” actually means (promotion, salary, role change, visibility, experience, mastery, etc).
2. Identify the gap between where I am and where I want to be.
3. Start tracking my impact properly (not just effort, but actual outcomes).
4. Build relationships with people already where I want to be and gain as much insight possible to ensure I’m moving in the right direction.
5. Back myself & put myself forward before I feel “ready”, as let’s face it, we’ll never feel fully ready.
📈Despite what we’re programmed to think, career progression isn’t really about doing more. Of course, hard work pays off, but in order to progress, you need to be more intentional with what you’re already doing. In order to progress in the right direction that will actually take you where you want to be, you need to know where you want to go.
If you’re in a phase where you want to progress your career, give me a shout. I’d love to help you 💌
