Aspire - The Autism Spectrum Association of Ireland

Aspire - The Autism Spectrum Association of Ireland Aspire focuses on five key areas to achieve these goals:

1. To ensure that information and a network of support is available to anyone who needs it

3.

Aspire - The Autism Spectrum Association of Ireland is celebrating 30 Years of Autistic Empowerment. 💙
We work to improve the quality of life for autistic people in Ireland and provide ongoing support to the autism community. Aspire – Autism Spectrum Association of Ireland, was established 25 years ago to support members of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Community, most specifically those with

a formal diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. Today, our goals are still aligned to that which we believed in 25 years ago, which are:

To provide information, support and assistance for people who have Asperger Syndrome or ASD in Ireland, in particular in the areas of diagnosis, education, training, remedial treatment, housing, employment and personal development;

To promote a support network for families, friends and carers of those living with Asperger Syndrome, and provide a general forum to discuss topics associated with ASD or Asperger Syndrome;

To advocate on behalf of people with ASD, and provide them with the tools to advocate for themselves; and

To provide a residential unit for those living with a diagnosis of ASD or Asperger Syndrome, providing independent living skills and the tools to live independently. To meet the needs of people living with Asperger Syndrome or ASD throughout their lives, from diagnosis, through education, social exploration, career development and independent living;

2. To promote an understanding of the unique qualities of people with Asperger Syndrome or ASD and their needs, to ensure support is provided in social, educational and employment environments;

4. To facilitate families of people with ASD or Asperger Syndrome in gaining the tools and resources needed for them to support their family member in achieving their goals; and

5. To participate in and encourage research into ASD or Asperger Syndrome as opportunities present themselves.

This is the space where our social group 40 meets

When you walk in, the first thing you’ll notice is how open it is. There’s room to breathe. Room to move. You’re not squeezed into a corner or forced to sit face to face with someone you just met.

There’s art on the walls - the kind you can just stand in front of for a while if you need a moment to yourself. No one will think anything of it.

There are books too. So if the conversation feels like a bit much that day, you can just sit quietly and read.

You can be with the group or you can be near the group. There’s a difference and both are completely fine.

No one will expect you to perform. No one will expect you to be “on.”

If that sounds like a place you’d like to be in. There’s still time to attend today’s group

Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen 💙

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers.

Today, we especially want to recognise the mothers in our community:

To you.

You learned a different language of love. You possibly sat beside meltdowns, sensory overwhelm and long quiet moments trying to understand.

You became advocates. Researchers. Protectors.

You celebrate victories others never see: a new word, a new learning, a calmer day, a moment of connection.

Your patience and persistence shape safer spaces for autistic people to lead their own lives, exactly as they are.

Your actions echo through your community.

Today we recognise you.

Happy Mother’s Day. 💙

Autistic burnout is not "feeling tired."
It’s not something a long weekend or a few extra hours of sleep can fix.

Autistic burnout is the heavy, soul-deep debt that comes from living in a world that asks you to ignore your own instincts every single day.

It is the accumulated cost of long-term adaptation in a world that was not designed for your neurology.
It happens when you’ve spent years "acting" like everyone else just to get by.
When you have absorbed misunderstanding.

When you have been:

The strong one,
The reliable one,
The high-functioning one,
The one who handles
it all.

When you’ve pretended to be okay when you were actually drowning in sensory input.
Eventually, the system collapses.

Recovery from an autistic burnout can take years because the "debt" you owe your nervous system is decades deep.

Please remember this is not something you "push through".
It requires slower pacing, real rest and unapologetic boundaries.
Give yourself the same patience you would give anyone else.

Are you wearing a heavy mask just to fit in today? 😔🖤

That’s autistic masking, copying others, forcing eye contact, hiding stims, and pushing down your natural self to avoid judgement. It drains your energy and often leads to stress and burnout.

On the flip side?

Being your authentic autistic self looks like stimming freely, skipping the eye contact script, and seeking the sensory input you need, without fear.

We need less fear and pretending,
and more regulation, safety, and wellbeing. 💙

Autistic Unmasking doesn’t start with courage, it starts with safety!
