If you've got sleep issues, magnesium would not be the first thing I'd reach for.
Most of my clients have already tried magnesium by the time they find me.
Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it helps for a while and then stops working. And often, it doesn't make much difference at all.
Here's why:
Magnesium doesn't work in isolation. It's part of a complex mineral system that includes calcium, sodium, potassium, and other essential minerals that most people have never tested.
When those minerals are out of balance, adding more magnesium can be like adding weight to one side of a scale that's already tipped. Instead of restoring balance, it can sometimes push things further in the wrong direction.
Then there's another piece of the puzzle that often gets overlooked: heavy metals.
This is why I prefer testing over guessing. And I run functional lab testing, four tests to be exact, starting with the HTMA, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis.
Rather than recommending the same supplement to everyone, (HTMA) gives me a snapshot of your mineral patterns and potential heavy metal burden so we can identify what your body actually needs.
For some people, supporting electrolytes with products such as Jarrow Bone-Up or Hi-Lyte Potassium 1000 can be helpful and that's where I'd start.
But my favorite approach is creating a customized mineral protocol based on your individual HTMA results and a custom mineral blend from
This approach helped my client Marian experience ‘a switch'. She said 'I feel content and calm, something I havent experienced in years’.
She is off all sleeping meds and went from 3 hours sleep a night to 8 hours and I can safely say that mineral balancing was a key part of her recovery.
Your sleep challenges may not be a magnesium deficiency.
They may be a mineral imbalance.
And until you identify the imbalance, you're often just guessing.
If you'd like to uncover what's really driving your sleep issues, comment SLEEP and I'll send you my masterclass which explains how it works
