The claddagh ring represents love, loyalty and friendship. The origins can be traced back to the small fishing village of Claddagh, Galway.
The widely accepted origin of the ring traces back to a goldsmith from Galway named Richard Joyce, who was captured and enslaved by pirates but eventually returned back to his hometown and crafted the first claddagh ring.
Wearing the claddagh is a common way for individuals with Irish ancestry to showcase their heritage, regardless of gender.
