A friend abroad spotted this art and thought of me! The older baby mixes breastfeeding with gymnastics, a toe in mom's mouth, a foot on her shoulder or playing with mom's hair! Fun times!

FLAT NI***ES
These are photos of one of a pair of breast shaped mountains in my beloved Kerry...the Paps of Anu. The "ni**le" has been created by generations of people carrying up a stone in the hope of some abundance.
I did a night hike up the Paps (690m) with one of my daughters as part of a group, hoping to greeting the summer solstice . The ni**le is far more obvious atop so you would be foolish to judge it as a small flat ni**le from sea level! I can't count how many new mothers have been told by hospital staff that they have flat ni**les. Told that flat ni**les cause difficulty in breastfeeding. About 99 percent of these "flat" ni**les are absolutely perfect upstanding members of the lactation team! In the days after giving birth, lots of fluid flows to the breasts bringing increased blood flow . IV fluids also cause excess fluid in mother's body . This can all cause puffiness around the breasts, engorgement can occur and this can affect shape and texture of the breasts and ni**les. There are many techniques to prevent and cope with this. Learn about breast shaping , reverse pressure softening technique and other helpful tips to help your baby feed in these early days ,and restore your ni**le's good name!!

With La Leche League of Ireland – I just made it onto their weekly engagement list by being one of their top engagers! 🎉. I first attended a la leche league when my first baby was 9 weeks old. Technically everything was going well but my neighbours were tut tutting when I was seen coming home from the shops pushing an empty pram and my daughter in my arms where she seemed much happier, when I mentioned I was feeding her during the night, in our bed, not letting her cry it out! Arriving in that home in Longwood ,Meath ,where the meeting was ,being warmly greeted and congratulated...it was wonderful, nourishing for me as a new mom. I attended the monthly meetings for years, learned so much about normal baby behaviour and made friends. I know LLL groups have whatsapp groups but I encourage you to attend in person when pregnant, breastfeeding or pumping. It's a lovely way to make connections.

Meeting Jenni Wilkins ,a mom who attended her first home birth info meeting in our home and Colette Donnelly ,homebirth midwife who attended Jenny's homebirth and promoted skin to skin to all the moms she attended. Such a wonderful conference to spend International Women's Day.

La Leche League of Ireland conference with superb international speakers, Nancy Mohrbacher and Nils Bergman. There is so much more to do , to improve the way Ireland supports women,mothers, More funding needed , a mother and baby unit so we can keep.mothers and babies together when mother is in a crisis, more training of ALL health professionals who are in ANY contact with mothers and babies. Educational of young women about hand expression, relactation and milk.donation/milk sharing, induced lactation and normal baby behaviour...sharing of information, education and support is powerful. We need to grow more resilience. Happy Women's Day!
