The County Galway Dementia Cafés Initiative provides six free monthly cafés across the county, creating welcoming spaces where people living with dementia, carers, families and friends can connect, share experiences and enjoy meaningful activities together.

From live music and arts and crafts to gentle exercise, gardening, reminiscence and wellbeing supports, each café offers opportunities for friendship, creativity and community participation.

As dementia affects more individuals and families across County Galway, these cafés play an important role in fostering inclusive, supportive communities where everyone is welcome.

The initiative has recently been recognised through shortlisting in both the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2026 and the Chambers Ireland Local Government Awards 2026.

Solas FRC Women’s Health Day 2026, taking place on Wednesday 9th September, 10am–2pm in St. Fursey’s Hall, Headford. This is a free, informal and welcoming event for women in our community. While there will be opportunities for health checks and to find out about health and wellbeing supports, the day is also about connection, community and taking a little time for yourself – meeting other women, having a cuppa, a chat and a laugh. No booking is required.
