The viral “conditioner before shampoo” trend… but here’s the luxury version that protects your hair while you sleep. 😍💚

Have you seen the viral trend of applying conditioner to your hair before shampooing?

There’s actually science behind the idea. Many dermatologists and hair experts recommend protecting the hair before washing because water, shampoo and friction can cause the hair cuticle to swell, increasing dryness, tangles and breakage—especially if your hair is coloured, highlighted or naturally dry.

Instead of using a rinse-out conditioner before washing, I’m using Aveda Botanical Repair™ Strengthening Overnight Serum while I sleep and washing my hair the next morning.

✨ Why I love this approach:

💚 Helps protect the hair before washing.
💚 Deeply hydrates while you sleep.
💚 Strengthens fragile strands and helps reduce breakage.
💚 Leaves hair feeling softer and smoother after shampooing.
💚 Helps reduce frizz and improve manageability.
💚 Supports the hair cuticle, leaving hair shinier and healthier looking.
💚 Perfect for coloured, highlighted, dry or damaged hair.
💚 Lightweight formula that won’t leave hair feeling greasy.

Your hair is most vulnerable when it’s wet. Giving it extra protection before shampooing helps minimise stress during washing, brushing and styling.

Healthy hair isn’t just about the products you use after washing—it’s also about how well you protect it before you wash.

Would you try this overnight haircare routine? Save this post to try on your next wash day! 🌿✨

✨ Want glass skin, glossy hair and a happy gut ?
My weekly meal prepping
These simple rituals have become part of my weekly routine because nourishing your body from the inside out is one of the most powerful things you can do for your overall health.
🍎 1. Stewed apples with warming spices
One of my favourite breakfasts is gently stewed apples with:
✨ Cinnamon
✨ Ginger
✨ Cardamom
✨ Nutmeg
Stewing apples makes them easier to digest while providing pectin, a prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria. The warming spices have traditionally been used to support digestion and help support balanced blood sugar after meals.
I top mine with plain yogurt for a creamy dairy-free source of live cultures.
🌻 2. Toasting my seeds for the week
Every week I lightly toast pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and flax seeds.
Why?
✔️ Enhances their delicious nutty flavour.
✔️ Makes them easier to digest for many people.
✔️ Having them ready means I actually use them every day on breakfasts, soups and salads.
🥜 3. Soaking and gently toasting my nuts
I soak my nuts overnight before drying and lightly toasting them.
Why?
✔️ Soaking may reduce naturally occurring compounds like phytic acid, making them easier to digest for some people.
✔️ Toasting adds crunch and brings out their natural flavour.
❤️ 4. Pomegranate as my daily snack
Pomegranate is rich in polyphenols that may help encourage the growth of Akkermansia muciniphila, a beneficial gut bacterium associated with gut barrier health, metabolic health and lower inflammation.
A healthy gut really can reflect on your skin.
🌙 5. My evening saffron tea ritual
Before bed, I unwind with saffron tea.
I love it because it may:
💛 Support a healthy stress response.
💛 Help me relax before sleep.
💛 Provide powerful antioxidants.
💛 Support mood and sleep quality.
My saffron tea recipe:
✨ 6–10 saffron strands
✨ 250ml hot (not boiling) water
✨ Steep for 15–20 minutes
Small, consistent habits can have a big impact over time. Nourish your gut, and you’ll often nourish your skin, hair and overall wellbeing too.
Which habit are you addi

Hair myths… that are actually TRUE! ✨

There are so many hair myths online, but these are backed by what we see every day in the salon.

🤍 Your scalp deserves skincare too.
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Regular cleansing, gentle exfoliation and the right products create the best environment for strong, beautiful hair.

💧 Wet hair is more fragile.
Hair stretches and is more vulnerable when it’s wet. Be gentle when brushing, use a wide-tooth comb or a suitable detangling brush, and avoid rough towel drying.

🌿 Your hair can change over time.
Hormones, menopause, pregnancy, stress, medications and ageing can all affect your hair’s texture, thickness and condition. Your routine should change as your hair changes.

😌 Stress really can cause hair loss.
Periods of physical or emotional stress can trigger increased shedding. The good news is that in many cases it’s temporary, but it’s always worth seeking advice if you’re concerned.

🥗 What you eat shows in your hair.
Hair needs protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals to grow at its best. Nourishing your body also nourishes your hair.

🔥 Air drying isn’t always the healthiest option.
Leaving hair wet for long periods can cause the hair fibre to swell, making it more prone to damage. A gentle blow-dry with heat protection is often healthier than many people think.

✨ Healthy hair isn’t about following every trend—it’s about understanding what your hair needs and caring for it consistently.

If you’re unsure which products or routine are right for your hair and scalp, we’d love to help. Pop into the salon for personalised advice. 🤍

Want glass skin and lustrous hair add these amazing teas to your regime !!!

🌹 The star of every blend? Rose buds.

In TCM, rose is loved for gently moving Liver Qi, supporting healthy circulation, helping reduce stress, and bringing nourishment to the skin. When Qi and Blood flow well, your complexion can look brighter, healthier, and more radiant.

🍵 Tea 1: Rose + Goji Berries
My everyday beauty tea.
Goji berries are traditionally used in TCM to nourish the Liver and Kidneys, supporting healthy hair, eyes and skin, while rose adds its calming, complexion-loving benefits.

🌼 Tea 2: Rose + Goji + Chrysanthemum
Perfect if you’ve been staring at screens all day or feel warm and flushed.
Chrysanthemum is traditionally used to help clear excess heat and support eye health, making this a refreshing beauty blend. Make sure not to steep chrysanthemum too long as it gets bitter so just add for 5-10 mins at the end

❤️ Tea 3: Hawthorn + Rose + Goji + Jujube + Longan
My nourishing beauty tonic.
Jujube and longan are traditionally used to help nourish Blood and calm the Shen (spirit), while hawthorn supports healthy digestion. In TCM, good digestion is the foundation for absorbing the nutrients that help support vibrant skin and healthy hair.

🌹 How I make them:
• Add the herbs to a mug or teapot.
• Pour over water just below boiling (around 85–90°C).
• Steep for 10–15 minutes.
• For the Hawthorn, Jujube and Longan blend, lightly slice the jujubes first to release more flavour.
• You can top up with more hot water 2–3 times throughout the day.

✨ Beauty isn’t just what you put on your skin… it’s what you consistently nourish your body with.

Save this post for your next tea ritual and let me know which blend you’re trying first. 🌹🍵

STOP scrolling if you’re noticing more grey hairs… These 3 BLACK foods might surprise you. 🖤
🖤 Grey hair isn’t just about age… what you eat matters too.
As a hairstylist, I know beautiful hair starts with how you care for it on the outside and how you nourish it from within.
These are three of my favourite black superfoods to support healthy hair:
🖤 Black Sesame Seeds – Rich in copper, iron, calcium and vitamin E. Copper plays a role in melanin production, the pigment responsible for hair colour.
🖤 Black Goji Berries – Packed with anthocyanins and antioxidants that help protect hair follicles from oxidative stress, which is linked to premature greying.
🖤 Basil Seeds – Full of minerals, fibre and antioxidants that help support healthy hair and scalp function.
✨ While genetics and ageing are major factors in grey hair, giving your body the nutrients it needs can help support healthy hair as it grows.
Healthy hair is about more than what you put on it—it’s also about what you feed it.
💬 Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments.

Ancient wisdom still has a place in modern hair care. 💛 While research on wet hair and scalp conditions is still evolving, Traditional Chinese Medicine has long emphasised avoiding prolonged dampness—especially overnight—to support a healthy scalp environment.
