Well, we didn't quite make it to the top spot in the Naturally Good Health magazine retailer of the year competition but...we did make it to runner up this year and, if someone had to pip us to the post, who better than our friends at The Aloe Tree 😊 to whom we extend huge congratulations 🎊 👏 💐

Thanks so much to everyone who voted for us. It means so much to us to know that we mean so much to you too! There's always next year right?!

When we were at the Atlantic Aromatics training day at Airfield Estate earlier in the summer, Christine from Obus Academy, who was training us, showed us this handy aromatherapy inhalers. I was immediately interested as smells can be very grounding for my son who is autistic and has a lot of anxiety. I brought one home for him to try and, having loaded it with his favourite clary sage oil, it has been a really useful tool to help him regulate when he is feeling worried. Christine explained that it doesn't matter too much about the specific qualities of the oil so long as it is an oil that helps that individual person to feel better. She recommends waving the inhaler under both nostrils as we can breathe through one or the other at different times.

We now have some of these for sale in the shop as I think they could be very helpful for anxious kids starting back to school in the next week or so. Caveat is that they are plastic as I wasn't able to find an alternative, but I think you could probably add more drops through the hole at the top, to be able to recharge them for longer. Keeping the lid on the inhaler when not in use means that they last a long time anyway.

Some time ago I shared my excitement at finding a handy gadget my grandparents had in their house. That was a magnet device to stick your soap bar to the wall and I'm still so happy that we stock them.

I've now found the second of the three grandparent gadgets I want to source - the tube squeezer! Never did a tiny drop of toothpaste get left behind at my grandparents' house thanks to the handy tube squeezer. UpCircle now have these as part of their offering, and we have just received our first delivery.

The last, still sought item, which was undoubtedly my favourite, was a thing which squeezed together all the tiny ends of soap bars to make a new, multicoloured and multitextured bar. How zero waste was that back in the 80s?! If anyone has leads on that last one, please do let me know

Hooray for my grandparents - post war mindset making them eco-protectors ahead of their time 🥰

Imagine you couldn't come into the shop and pick the food supplements you want to take to support your own health 😳. This reality is on its way unless we all take action now! Supplement levels are being harmonised across the EU and the suggested levels are looking at being much, much lower than what is currently available here in Ireland. A well balanced diet goes a long way but, due to intensive farming, levels of vitamins and minerals in our foods are not as they should be. On top of this, for many people a well balanced diet is not achievable for a variety reasons, and indeed, due to health concerns, specific nutrients require topping up by supplementation.

So... what can you do?!

Firstly visit www.saveoursupplements.ie and read more! (Link in bio for Instagram users)

Then at the same site, you can sign the petition, use a template to email your TDs and register to make a submission when that becomes possible. All of this takes just a few minutes of your time and every voice makes a difference in protecting our right to choose our own health products.

Act Now! Don't wait!
