When Life Changes You
Sometimes life changes in ways we didn’t choose, a loss, a diagnosis, a relationship ending or a change in work or home. Someone we love leaving our lives. And often, somewhere in the middle of it all, there is an expectation that we should eventually get back to normal.
Back to ourselves, back to work or back to doing all the things we used to do. But what if there is no going back? Some experiences utterly change us.
And perhaps healing isn’t always about returning to the person we were before something happened. Perhaps it is about allowing ourselves the time and space to discover who we are now. Some days that might mean doing more and some days it might mean doing very little.
Walking, sitting in the garden, crying or laughing unexpectedly. Spending time with people we love or spending time alone. Making something, moving our body or getting out into nature.
There is no perfect way to move through the things that change us. And there is no timetable.
Sometimes healing is simply learning how to live gently alongside what has happened, until slowly, almost unnoticed, life begins to grow around it. It’s not the same life. But it is life. 🌿
