. πŸ”† Do We Have a New Walker? πŸ˜‰ πŸ”†

Our Glanmire Walkers and Talkers meet a lot of people on our walks and we are always delighted when we have a new walker to join us ☺️

This morning we met a lady who was so kind to be in a photo with us. We’re not sure if she will have time to walk with us before her fight in Croke Park πŸ₯Š πŸ’ͺ πŸ₯Š

πŸ”… Volunteers Needed πŸ”…

As our Allstars team continues to grow, our need for volunteers does too. Could you spare 1 hour a week to help at an amazing camp for children in the area with additional needs?

Up-to-date garda vetting is required. Also, previous work with children with different abilities is preferred, but not essential. For further information, please contact Deirdre on 087-9183787

. πŸ”† Ovarian Cancer - Advice from the Marie Keating Foundation πŸ”†
May 8th is World Ovarian Cancer Day (WOCD); Ireland has one of the highest rates of ovarian cancer in Europe and also has the 2nd lowest survival rates for ovarian cancer out of 24 EU countries.

On average 371 women are diagnosed annually with Ovarian Cancer. It is the 6th most common cancer in Irish women after non-melanoma skin cancer and the fourth most common cause of cancer deaths in women.

Many late-stage cancers share vague or non-specific symptoms, which can lead to delayed presentation and diagnosis, often resulting in less favourable outcomes and fewer effective treatment options.

Awareness of signs and symptoms and knowing your own body can help support early diagnosis with more positive outcomes if a cancer is diagnosed and treated early.

Let’s B.E.A.T. Ovarian Cancer;
- Bloating that is persistent and doesn’t come and go
- Eating less and feeling full more quickly
- Abdominal and pelvic pain you feel most days
- Toilet Changes: *needing to pass urine more often *changes in your bowel habits or symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, especially if this starts after the age of 50

Other possible symptoms may include:
- Tiredness that is unexplained
- Weight loss that is unexplained
- Abnormal bleeding – any post-menopausal bleeding should always be investigated

Talk to your GP if any of the above symptoms persist.
