A little glimpse into my week as an OT ✨

Some moments are calm and deeply rewarding, others are messy, challenging, and push me right out of my comfort zone. But that mix is exactly what keeps me growing.

Building a company that genuinely brings me joy hasn’t happened overnight. It’s taken a lot of trial and error, tough lessons, long days, and honest reflection. I’ve had to learn what energises me, what drains me, and where I need to set boundaries to protect my passion.

For me, it’s about creating work that has:
🌿 Variety to keep things interesting
🌿 Challenges that stretch me
🌿 Meaning that reminds me why I started

Because enjoying your role isn’t just a “nice to have”-it’s what sustains you. It’s what prevents burnout. It’s what allows you to show up fully for the people you support.

I’m still learning every day, still figuring things out, still evolving.

Work doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. It can feel aligned, fulfilling, and even joyful.

Here’s to building something that grows with you 🤍

Child-led play is something I’ve really leaned into both at home and in my work as an OT 💜

It doesn’t mean leaving children entirely to their own devices. It means thoughtfully setting up the environment, offering materials, and then stepping back enough to let their interests lead ✨

My toddler loves superheroes, machinery and tools , interests I definitely didn’t have as a child. It’s a good reminder that play doesn’t have to look the way we expect it to.

When we avoid redirecting too quickly, we give children space to explore what genuinely interests them. When a child is deeply engaged, that’s where the richest play and learning often happens. It can be tempting to tidy, rotate toys, or suggest something new when playing with them but staying with what they’re already immersed in can lead to longer, more meaningful play.

Some of our favourite open-ended materials at home are:
• Kinetic sand
• Duplo
• Magnatiles
• Water play
• Outdoor play
• Small bits and tools
These types of toys can become anything depending on the child’s ideas & work on a huge amount of skills including fine motor, problem solving, coping with frustration, ideation and motor planning, language and many more.

A small safety note: loose parts and smaller pieces are always supervised, particularly for younger children or children who may still mouth or chew objects. Age and stage always matter.

Also visited and consulted with lots of schools this week who are using a child-led approach to promote self regulation and autonomy. We mainly focused on how to create invitations to play and zoning in the classroom to facilitate new learning & opportunities for eg. A window ledge for sitting at height while using window markers/suckers/ letters on the window.

I’d love to hear from you:
What kinds of play do your children gravitate towards?

And if you’re a teacher - is your classroom child-led? What are your favourite materials to set the stage for play?

Getting back into a routine after school holidays is never easy and sensory sensitivities in children, specifically when it comes to tolerating clothing items like socks, shoes, tights, and underwear is very common.

For some children, the feeling of certain fabrics or the level of tightness of clothing can be extremely overwhelming and uncomfortable. This feeling can also become heightened when a child feels stressed which can lead to difficulty getting dressed in the morning, meltdowns, and even refusal to wear certain items.

If you have a child who struggles with sensory sensitivities, there are a few things you can try to make clothing more comfortable for them:

1. Look for fabrics that are soft and smooth, rather than rough or itchy.

2. Choose clothing that is not too tight or constricting.

3. Consider seamless socks and underwear to reduce irritation.

4. Allow your child to help choose their own clothing, as they may feel more comfortable in items they have picked out themselves.

5. Allow your child to wear their tracksuit rather than a uniform if they are more comfortable.

It can be frustrating and overwhelming to deal with sensory sensitivities, but with patience and understanding, you can help your child feel more comfortable in their clothes.
