Happy world bee day. For 35 years beekeepers across Ireland have been campaigning for a ban on imported Honeybees. Our native honeybee is under threat from non native sub species, hybrid honeybees, exotic pests and diseases. Thousands of queens are coming into the country every year diluting our unique genetics. We have cross party support for this in the Dail. Need action now from the government. .

This is our busiest time of year, flat out on hive inspections. Even crappy weather cannot stop swarm control. Waiting out showers in the jeep to check hives. The weather is cold & wet for the next few days but from the middle of next week it's improving.

Had 6 call outs in the last week in Killucan area for Solitary bees. The red mason bee. This bee is completely harmless, only see them between March & June and that's it. It's a sign of good biodiversity in an area if they are found. I will not be disturbing this type of solitary bee, they don't sting and are completely different from honeybees and pose no danger or threat to anyone.

Spring forage from spring wildflowers, Dandelion, Willow, fruit trees & fruit bushes. The horse chestnut is just starting. Sycamore to come yet & Hawthorne.
Looking for Apiary sites outside of the Killucan area that can hold 6 to 8 hives with good access.
