My heart is full after such a beautiful weekend 🫶

Meaningful conversations, sharing stories, learning from one another, and being reminded of the power of genuine connection.

There was laughter, incredible food (.chef) , sunshine that felt like a gift, and so many moments that brought us back to ourselves. Grounded by nature, nourished by community, and inspired by the wisdom that comes when we take the time to truly listen and share.

Feeling deeply grateful for the people, the memories, and the gentle reminders of what really matters 💗

A huge thank you to everyone who was part of it and made it so special.
Already counting down to next year 🤣

🌐An Urgent Call for Unity Across Europe 🌐

A concerning development is unfolding in Greece.

New legislation appears to place Shiatsu and other traditional bodywork practices under a framework designed for “non-therapeutic massage services,” requiring qualifications in aesthetics or physiotherapy rather than recognising the specialised training pathways of established disciplines such as Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Reflexology, Ayurvedic therapies and other traditional forms of bodywork.

This is not only a Greek issue.

Across Europe we are witnessing increasing challenges to the recognition of complementary health practices. Colleagues in Poland have recently faced similar pressures. Many professional communities are finding themselves required to defend their right to practise, despite decades of training, professional standards, ethical codes, and service to the public.

Shiatsu is not a beauty treatment.

Shiatsu is a recognised traditional bodywork discipline with a rich history, a comprehensive educational framework, and professional organisations that uphold standards of practice throughout Europe.

This moment calls for solidarity.

Together we are stronger.

➡️ Please share, engage, and support our colleagues in Greece.

It’s Shiatsu Awareness Month

Many of us move through life constantly doing, giving, and caring for others, often forgetting to give ourselves the same care and attention.

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing Japanese therapy that uses gentle pressure and mindful touch to support the body’s natural healing processes and restore balance.

Treatments can help reduce stress, improve sleep, ease tension, and leave you feeling calmer, grounded, and more connected to yourself.

Have you experienced Shiatsu before?

June is Shiatsu Awareness Month — an opportunity to highlight the value of Shiatsu as a professional, evidence-informed complementary therapy that supports health and wellbeing through skilled therapeutic touch.

Shiatsu is used by people for many reasons: managing stress, supporting recovery from fatigue and tension, improving body awareness, and creating space for rest and regulation in increasingly demanding lives. Treatments are tailored to the individual and carried out fully clothed in a calm, supportive environment.

At the Shiatsu Society Ireland, we are proud to support high standards in Shiatsu practice, education, and professional development across Ireland.

If you have been curious about Shiatsu, this month is a good opportunity to learn more or experience a treatment for yourself.

Shiatsu offers a practical and grounded approach to supporting wellbeing — through attentive touch, presence, and care.

Practitioners: throughout June, please share your treatments, talks, workshops, and events to help raise awareness of Shiatsu across Ireland.
Remember to tag Shiatsu Society Ireland and include in your posts so we can support and share your activities.

Lately I’ve been thinking about connection in its simplest form.

Connection with yourself when you can finally hear your own thoughts again.

Connection with nature when you step outside and actually notice the air, the light, the season changing.
Connection with other beings… the joy of having a companion beside you on hikes, or the comfort of them resting beside you.

Shared silence with someone you love, the feeling of being present instead of distracted.

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.” — Shunryu Suzuki

I think a lot of us need more of that beginner’s mind again. Less overstimulation, less certainty, less constantly looking outward for the next thing.
More openness, more presence, more attention to what’s already here.

Sometimes coming back to basics is enough.

Wishing you a peaceful and beautiful weekend 💗

We often live as though we should feel the same all year round… but nature doesn’t work that way, and neither do we.

I love living with the seasons and bringing that awareness into different aspects of life: slowing down in winter, creating space for growth in spring, embracing expansion in summer, and letting go in autumn.

In Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine, each season is connected to different organs, emotions, and qualities of energy within us.

Rather than pushing against these changes, Shiatsu invites us to listen and move with them.

We are part of nature, not separate from it.

Your period doesn’t change or disappear because your body is “working against you.”

When we experience ongoing stress, the body releases cortisol, our main stress hormone. If this happens sporadically, this response is protective. But when stress becomes prolonged, the body can start redirecting energy away from functions it sees as “non-essential,” including reproduction.

Research shows that chronic stress and elevated cortisol can influence the hormonal pathways involved in ovulation and menstrual health, contributing to symptoms such as irregular cycles, delayed or missing periods, PMS changes, sleep disruption, fatigue and mood shifts.

That’s your body’s response to being overloaded with stress.

Shiatsu works similarly to acupuncture, but without needles. Through gentle pressure applied to specific points and pathways in the body, it aims to support the nervous system, improve circulation and encourage the body to move from a constant “fight or flight” state into a more restorative state.

When the nervous system feels safer and more regulated, the body often has more capacity to restore balance.

Hormonal health isn’t only about hormones. It’s also about rest, nourishment, stress levels and feeling supported. And that’s where Shiatsu can help, by supporting the nervous system and creating space for the body to restore balance naturally
