This week I've been talking about medical anxiety - the appointments avoided, the letters left unopened, the scans that never get booked. And I want to tell you what's actually possible.

Because most people who come to me with health-related fears have already tried the logical approach. They've told themselves "it's not a big deal." They've asked someone to come with them. They've Googled what to expect. They've taken deep breaths in the car park. And it helps a little... until it doesn't.

That's because logic doesn't live in the same part of the brain as fear.

BWRT works differently. Instead of trying to convince your mind that there's nothing to worry about, we go straight to where the fear response was created and update it at the source. Most people notice a significant shift within just one or two sessions.

Not "I can cope with it now." More like, "I honestly don't know why I was so afraid of that." That's what's possible.

If you've been putting something off because of fear - a scan, a dental appointment, a procedure - I'd love to help you get there.

Appointments are available online Monday-Thursday, or if you're local to Castlebar, I'm at Kachina every Friday for face-to-face appointments. 💙

The letter arrives. Or the text. Or the doctor mentions it at the end of your appointment. "We'd like to book you in for a scan." And something shifts in your chest.

For most people, it's an inconvenience. A date in the diary. Fine. But for some people, those words trigger something else entirely. A creeping dread that starts small and builds. The beeping machines. The narrow tunnel. The cold, clinical smell. The feeling of being completely out of control, lying still, surrounded by equipment you don't understand.

Some people put the letter to one side. Then to the bottom of the pile. Some people don't go at all. And then the worry about what they might find gets tangled up with the fear of the place itself - and it becomes almost impossible to separate the two.

I've worked with people who have avoided scans, X-rays, and hospital appointments for years. Not because they didn't care. Because the fear was bigger than the logic.
If this is you, or someone you love, I want you to know that this is one of the most common things I help people with. And it responds really, really well to BWRT.

You don't have to white-knuckle your way through it. You don't have to avoid it and hope for the best. There's another option and it works! 💙

Does Your Brain Go Into Meltdown At The Doctor's Office?

Here's what's actually happening when you panic at the thought of a medical appointment.

Your brain has a built-in alarm system. Its one job is to keep you safe. And at some point - maybe after a scary experience, maybe after years of dreading it - it decided that doctors, dentists, hospitals, needles… are a threat.

So now, even when you're perfectly safe, your brain fires off the same alarm. Heart racing. Chest tight. Mind going blank. The urge to get out.

This is not a personality flaw. This is not you being "too sensitive." This is your nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do - just at the wrong time, in the wrong place.

The problem is, the more you avoid, the more the brain confirms its own story. "See? We escaped. Good thing we didn't go." And the cycle continues.

What I do (BWRT) works directly with that alarm system. Not to talk you out of your fear. Not to tell you there's nothing to worry about. But to update the response at the level where it was created in the first place.

Because your brain learned this fear. And it can unlearn it, too.

You cancelled (or didn't book) the appointment again.

Not because you don't care about your health. Not because you're lazy or irresponsible.

Because the thought of walking into that waiting room - the smell, the sounds, the lights - makes your heart race before you've even picked up the phone.

Medical anxiety is real. And it affects more people than you'd think.

It's the woman who hasn't had a smear test in seven years because she can't face it.

The man who needs a tooth out but keeps rescheduling.

The person who got genuinely ill last year - and still avoided going to the doctor for months.

If that sounds familiar, I want you to know: you are not being dramatic. You are not weak. Your brain is just doing what it was designed to do - protect you from something it has decided is a threat.

The good news? That response can be changed.

This week I'm talking all about medical anxiety, health fears, and what's actually possible when you get the right support.

💬 Drop an emoji in the comments if any of this resonates - you might be surprised how many others feel the same way. And if you'd like it gone for once and for all, get in touch to book your BWRT appointment, in person or online.

In September 2024, I was invited by then National President, Linda Codoul, to speak at the Network Ireland National Conference and Awards in Lyrath Estate, about BWRT (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy). The response was fantastic and it was so great to be able to talk about the power end effectiveness of this amazing therapeutic intervention.

Whilst most people have heard of the work I do, many don't really understand just what it entails, and how it can help practically anything. Which is why on Tuesday, 2nd June at 10am, I'm running a free webinar on Zoom to chat about the modalities I use, the issues they can help, and I'll also be discussing the 'subconscious' mind, the brain, our behaviours and beliefs, why they're there, and how you can change them if you want to. My aim is for you to have a deeper understanding of yourself, and of other people, too.

A replay will be available if you can't join live.
