My name is Brenda, and I am the owner of Pawsitive Pet Healing.
I have worked within the veterinary industry for over 17 years, gaining extensive hands-on experience in a variety of roles, including Animal Care Assistant, and Front of House within busy veterinary practices. While I am not a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), my years of practical experience have given me a deep understanding of animal care, recovery support, and client communication.
Throughout my career, I often saw pet owners struggling with administering medications, managing crate rest, and understanding post-operative exercise restrictions following surgical procedures.
Recognising the need for additional support during what can be a stressful time for both pets and owners, I established Pawsitive Pet Healing. Since then, I have been honoured to receive recommendations from veterinary practices that trust me to care for their clients’ pets during recovery.
Every patient in my care receives individual attention tailored to their veterinary instructions and specific recovery needs. My patients may include dogs boarding while receiving prescribed medications, as well as post-surgical patients recovering from both minor and major procedures.
My day begins at 6am with supervised toilet breaks and gentle lead walks, carefully adjusted to each dog’s stage of recovery. Open wounds, bandages, E-collars, and overall comfort are closely monitored, with temperatures recorded where necessary. All dogs are exercised individually, and I provide appropriately sized crates to ensure comfort and safety.
Meal times and medications are administered strictly according to veterinary instructions, with some pets requiring medication several times throughout the day. Detailed care charts are maintained for every patient to ensure all medications, feeding schedules, and observations are accurately recorded.
Cleanliness and infection control are extremely important within my facility. Crates are cleaned regularly throughout the day using high-grade veterinary disinfectants, bedding and puppy pads are replaced as needed, and gloves are changed between patients to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. Floors and shared areas are sanitised frequently to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
Rest plays a vital role in recovery, and patients spend much of the day in a calm, comfortable setting with heat lamps and soft background radio music to help them relax. Regular comfort breaks, medication checks, cuddles, and owner updates — including photographs — are provided throughout the day.
Even overnight, patient welfare remains my priority. Late evening checks ensure all pets are settled comfortably, medications are administered if required, and CCTV monitoring allows me to respond quickly should any dog become distressed during the night.
Caring for recovering pets is not simply a job to me — it is a commitment to ensuring every animal feels safe, comfortable, and supported while healing away from home.
