Ever fancied a cold dip in a submergible cage in a river In Ireland?

Say hello to the Hot Box Sauna in Graiguenamanagh, Kilkenny - a sweathouse-style sauna in an old stone building right on the banks of the river Barrow

Kilkenny was site number 3 for us. After 6 months trawling Google Maps for a spot in Kilkenny town, we got a call from a legend of a man called Ken, who said he might have something in a tiny village called Graiguenamanagh. A few crossed wires later, we found this old stone building on the edge of the river Barrow.

But the river Barrow was flowing way too fast to dip safely, and you know us, we’re never going to settle for less

So we built floating pontoons, commissioned a steel cage (yes, the swimming-with-sharks kind), dropped in a ladder and boom, fresh river plunging between sweats

If you’re making a day trip we recommend: Climb Brandon Hill, sweat it out with us (obviously), lunch at Quirkys or Daisy Chain, and a pint in Mick Doyles to finish

*BREAKING NEWS*: a statement from The Hot Box Sauna

After silence for months, we finally thought it was time to come clean…

In Dec 2025, we opened our biggest sauna yet, but in July 2026, a failure of a pipe caused a leak of 30,000 litres of water

and we’ve been closed ever since

And when you’re closed, there’s not much to do except think…

When we built Boland’s, we wanted it to be the best thing we’d ever done. The biggest sauna, the plunge pools, the whole lot

And I think we got a bit carried away

So we’ve used the time to make some changes, to be the place we should have opened the first time round

Events on a proper rhythm, a more social environment, and some small changes to the overall experience
and we’re changing the price

We have a huge announcement! Bective, Inchicore, Cork, Carlingford, and Killiney - we’re rolling out our end of Summer event series!

We’ve had so many requests to bring ritual events to more Hot Box locations and we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make this happen.

Also were rolling out our popular Finnish BBQ events, so you can enjoy the sauna like the Fins!

We took some inspiration from the fin’s bbq tradition Grillimakkara, and had a little summer bbq party in inchicore last weekend

We’ve always felt that sauna is more than just sweating it out, its about a shared experience, and we wanted to start an events series to reflect that

We’re going to roll out these bbqs and other events across all of our sites so keep your eyes peeled
