Niamh specialises in all musculoskeletal conditions/injuries and her treatments are very much hands on. She places a heavy emphasis on patient education, helping to explain away the many myths concerning common injuries and pain conditions”. Her experience has seen her work with TCD's rugby and rowing teams, as well as club and inter-county GAA teams in Kildare and Tipperary. Physiofit provide much more than just the treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation and believe in making physiotherapy accessible to everyone. We proudly offer our patients the following physiotherapy services in addition to treating sports injuries:

Niamh was fortunate to work with leading world renowned expert’s in the area of migraine, cervico-genic headaches and whiplash in Australia. This is an area that has been of particular personal and professional interest to Niamh for many years and she is enthusiastic to help those who suffer. Although migraine can be quite debilitating, there are new evidence based physiotherapy treatments that can really help. I urge you to not suffer in silence and contact Physiofit for advice. Orthopaedics
Having gained invaluable experience at Aut Even Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny, Niamh is experienced in working with people who suffer with arthritic knee and hip pain. “My orthopaedic experience enables me to know when patients do or do not need surgery and I really enjoy helping patients to recover after knee and hip surgeries, especially after Total Hip and Knee Replacements”. At Physiofit, the aim is to fully rehabilitate patients using specialised rehabilitation equipment so that patients return to a pre-operative state as soon as possible. Care of the Elderly
Due to Niamh's convivial, calm and encouraging manner, it is not surprising that she really excels when dealing with elderly patients. At Physiofit, Niamh helps people who fall frequently and suffer with mobility issues associated with aging. Her confidence building treatment sessions can really improve the quality of life of older people. Niamh understands that it might not always be possible for people to travel to physiotherapy appointments, therefore Physiofit offer Physio at Home bringing physiotherapy services to you, in the comfort of your own home. Chronic Lower Back Pain
There has been fascinating new research in the area of Chronic pain and the most recent of which suggests the new physiotherapy approaches can be instrumental in helping patients who are suffering with long standing, debilitating pain, especially those of you who feel that your problem is simply chronic and untreatable. Featuring a spacious, tastefully decorated, state-of-the-art studio, Physiofit offers yoga and Pilates classes in a serene, calming environment. Yoga is the union of mind and body and Pilates is a method of improving spinal alignment and core stability. Niamh's journey of teaching Pilates began with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) based in London. She finds Pilates particularly beneficial to people who suffer with spinal pain. The benefits of Pilates are well-documented and Niamh uses them routinely with patients. She travelled to India, to study Yoga at its source and here she immersed herself in a strict yogic lifestyle at a traditional ashram. She learned asanas (exercises), pranayama (breathing techniques) and yogic philosophy. She gained an internationally recognised Yoga Teacher Training qualification that is accredited by the International Yoga Alliance. Niamh has just returned from home from a second stay in India, where she completed studies in Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.

“My philosophy is that a combination of yoga and Pilates works best.”

“I apply my physiotherapy background to modern Pilates methods, yogic philosophies and mindfulness/meditation to in order to restore physical and emotional wellbeing. My unique method has curative and preventative benefits for the body. These include increased flexibility and muscle strength, increased energy levels and vitality, improved athletic performance, empowerment and improved body awareness and protection from injury and early degeneration”. This successful combination has seen Niamh work with Tipperary’s senior hurlers and various club hurling teams in Tipperary and Limerick. Here I am doing an ab curl at full term 👀

Can you see my diastasis recti?

Shock horror 😱 (not really!)
And that’s completely expected.

Diastasis recti is a normal part of pregnancy. As your baby grows, your abdominal wall adapts and the linea alba stretches to create space for that wonderful little human within 🤍

For many women, a significant amount of natural recovery happens in the early postpartum weeks - but recovery isn’t just about whether there’s still a ‘gap.’

How your abdominal wall functions matters too.

Can you generate tension?
Can you manage pressure?
How are your breath, core and pelvic floor working together?

These are some of the wonderful things the things we do during our Postpartum MOTs ✨

Have you had your abdominal wall assessed postpartum?

Join us for a FREE physiotherapist-led recovery session where we’ll focus on three key foundations:

✨ Alignment — understanding the changes pregnancy brings to your posture and how to restore balance
✨ Pelvic Floor — reconnecting, relaxing and strengthening effectively
✨ Core — rebuilding your core from the inside out, starting with breath, connection and pressure management

Simple, practical advice you can actually use at home — led by Niamh Egan, pelvic health physiotherapis & founder of Physiofit.

☕️ Plus, a little something for you…
We’ve teamed up with Steeples Café for some delicious treats to enjoy after the session — because you deserve to be looked after too.

👫 Partners are very welcome too.
Especially if this is one of your first outings with baby — bring the support, take the pressure off and use it as a gentle trial run for getting out & about together.

👶 There’s no expectation for baby to behave a certain way — feeds, changes, cuddles and cries are all part of it.

You rehab your pelvic floor.
You rehab your abs.

But are you rehabbing your BREATH?

Pregnancy changes the way your diaphragm, rib cage and abdominal wall work together.

And those changes don’t necessarily disappear the minute your baby is born.

Learning to breathe diaphragmatically again, allowing your ribs to expand, your diaphragm to move and your abdominal wall to respond - is an important part of restoring your core mechanics postpartum.

Because your breath isn’t separate from your core.

It’s part of it.

Before we load the core, we need to make sure the whole system is working together.

Rehab the breath. Then build the strength ✔️

We’ve always known we have a rockstar physio in Margaret Quigley — and University College Cork clearly agrees.

Last week, Margaret was honoured as Top Student after completing her MSc in Physiotherapy at UCC (no surprise to us!)

She was awarded the prestigious Anne O’Brien Award by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists at the ISCP annual awards ceremony in Limerick.

We couldn’t be prouder of her achievement. We’re so fortunate to have her on our clinical team and even luckier to have her looking after our patients 🤍

This time, I’m not the physio… I’m across the room, showing up with my baby. For real recovery - because I know firsthand how important this stage really is.

Focusing on:
• realigning posture
• core rehabilitation
• diastasis recti
• pelvic floor recovery
• functional, real life strength
• rebuilding whole-body strength with confidence

Led by my wonderful colleague Margaret, a women’s health physio, these classes are designed to help you recover, rebuild and feel strong again.

Join us in April:
• Mummy & Me (Level 1) - Thursday 23rd at 10.00 am
• Mummy Fit (Level 2) - Thursday 16th at 11.15 am

Rebuild your body. Trust it again. Move with confidence.

12/03/2026

Your core doesn’t ‘bounce back’ in 6 weeks. Healing takes time.

Your core = diaphragm + deep abs + pelvic floor + back muscles working together.

⏳ 0–6 weeks: Your body is repairing. Focus on breathing and gentle pelvic floor activation.
⏳ 6–12 weeks: Start light core rehab. Focus on your deep core.
⏳ 3–6 months: Strength and stability improve with consistent rehab.
⏳ Up to 12 months: Full recovery for many women.

Important factors that affect healing
• Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
• C-section vs vaginal birth
• Number of pregnancies
• Strength before pregnancy
• Doing proper postpartum core exercises

💡 If you skip rehab and rush back to high impact workouts, you can worsen diastasis recti, back pain or pelvic floor issues.
