🤔 Did you know?
The rotator cuff is made up of four small but mighty muscles that work together to keep your shoulder stable and moving smoothly. They are often remembered by the acronym SITS:
💪 Supraspinatus – helps lift your arm away from your body.
💪 Infraspinatus – helps rotate your arm outward.
💪 Teres Minor – assists with external rotation and shoulder stability.
💪 Subscapularis – rotates your arm inward and supports the shoulder joint.
Although they are relatively small muscles, they play a HUGE role in everyday life.
We rely on them when:
👜 Carrying shopping bags
👕 Getting dressed
🏌️ Playing sports
👶 Lifting children
🧹 Doing household chores
🙋 Reaching overhead
These muscles can become tight, irritated or sore due to:
💻 Poor posture and desk work
🏋️ Repetitive movements
🎾 Sports activities
😟 Stress and muscle tension
🦴 Age-related wear and tear
When the rotator cuff becomes unhappy, you may experience:
• Shoulder pain
• Weakness when lifting the arm
• Difficulty reaching overhead
• Night-time discomfort
• Reduced range of movement
✨ Manual therapy and massage can help by:
✔️ Reducing muscle tension
✔️ Improving circulation
✔️ Supporting shoulder mobility
✔️ Encouraging relaxation
✔️ Promoting overall comfort and wellbeing
