Today I attended the All-Ireland Female Entrepreneur Conference by and left feeling inspired, motivated and grateful to continue to help people in our community following an illness or injury to regain their independence.

It was incredible to be surrounded by so many women who are passionate about their businesses, their communities and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Key Takeaways:

✨ Lead with compassion.
✨ Put people first.
✨ Listen, understand and genuinely care.
✨ Build trust through kindness and empathy.
✨ Success is measured by the difference you make in people’s lives.

Today’s keynote message reinforced exactly why I started Enable Occupational Therapy. My passion has always been to support people through their rehabilitation journey, helping them regain confidence, independence and quality of life.

I left feeling inspired to continue building a business that not only delivers excellent care but truly values and supports every person it works with.

At Enable Occupational Therapy, people will always come first. πŸ’š

Functional capacity isn’t just about what someone can’t do β€” it’s about what they can do, sustainably and safely.

VR practitioners use functional assessment to:

πŸ”Ή Understand real‑world work demands

πŸ”Ή Identify strengths and transferable skills

πŸ”Ή Tailor adjustments that genuinely work

πŸ”Ή Support phased returns that protect health

πŸ”Ή Build confidence and self‑efficacy

When functional capacity is understood holistically, work becomes more accessible, more sustainable and more meaningful.

Did you know that a simple cup of tea can tell an Occupational Therapist so much about how you’re managing at home? β˜•οΈ

When we ask someone to make a cup of tea or coffee during an assessment, we’re not assessing how good they are at making that cup of tea πŸ‘Œ We’re observing the skills needed to complete everyday tasks safely and independently.

We may be assessing:
βœ”οΈ Balance
βœ”οΈ Coordination
βœ”οΈ Dexterity
βœ”οΈ Memory
βœ”οΈ Problem-solving
βœ”οΈ Safety awareness
βœ”οΈ Sequencing
βœ”οΈ Independence with daily activities

What seems like a simple task can give us a much bigger picture of someone’s strengths, challenges and the ability to remain independent.

Occupational Therapy is all about enabling people to do the things that matter most to them. πŸ’™

Have you ever been surprised by what an occupational therapist assesses during an appointment? Let me know in the comments ⬇️

At Enable Occupational Therapy, our mission has always been about helping people live fuller, more independent lives and that doesn't start in adulthood.

πŸ’« It starts in childhood.

We are so proud to introduce Enable Kids because children deserve the right support at the right time to grow, thrive and reach their full potential.

Every child is unique. Every milestone matters and with the right guidance, encouragement and strategies, children can build the skills, confidence and independence they need for everyday life.

πŸ’¬Whether it's developing motor skills, improving attention and sensory processing skills, managing emotions or becoming more independent at home or school, we're here to support not just the child, but the whole family. Because when we invest in children, we invest in the future πŸ’«

If you're a parent, teacher or simply looking for advice, we're here to help 🩡
