The best week working with New York’s team (PoNY) at the WFDF world championships with the nicest group of lads both on and off the pitch. Learned LOADS about a new sport and had lots of laughs along the way. They took 2nd this time but no doubt even bigger and better things coming for this group of athletes soon 👏

As you can see this book is very well used……
I recommend this book to all my patients who are struggling during their rehabilitation with identity and loosing who they once were… we sometimes can underestimate how much an injury can impact us. For example it may stop us from going to work which has a significant impact on many many aspects of our lives. It may stop us from being able to gain that starting position on the team we have fought hard for…. It may even stop us from being able to pick up our children! We understand the impacts injuries can have on our lives so it’s important to have other tools in the toolbox when we are rehabbing…. Sometimes exercise alone doesn’t cut the mustard. Believe me I’ve been there myself and as a result I’ve become deeply passionate about helping people navigate it all. It’s those other daily habits like journaling, good sleep routines, solid nutrition, meditation and psychology input where needed which may help alongside your consistent rehab to take you back to a place where you can start believing the end goal is possible again!

There are so many elements to consider for successful calf rehabilitation to prepare you for the demands of your individual sport… calf rehab should be challenging and challenge different strength qualities including reactive strength / explosive strength and our ability to accelerate and decelerate in different planes of movement, depending on the demands of your sport. Experts in the field such as Griffin (2026) and Green et al. (2022) provide us with the frameworks for safe return to play criteria, which we use to inform our decision making on your readiness for return to play so that there is no guesswork during your rehabilitation phases

These exercises are some that we MAY use throughout your rehab to manage pain or start loading the glutes back up post injury depending on your individual symptoms and assessment findings. Lateral hip pain is a common condition which may be termed “gluteal tendinopathy” or “greater trochanter pain syndrome” or “greater trochanter bursitis”. It’s important to note that not all exercises are appropriate for everyone straight away and it will depend on what stage a person is at along their rehab journey/ their own individual abilities and pain experiences. There are also lots of other factors which can influence this type of pain including load, lifestyle, gender, hormones etc. so it’s important to get assessed and gain a clear understanding of what may be driving this pain from a healthcare professional.
